I totally echo Stevie's comments, you sound incredibly strong and you are certainly in charge of your own financial destiny. It sounds like I have a similar set up with the horse and the lodger and I also need to set up a vet bill savings account despite the insurance (so many exceptions now!), how are you managing so many SOers and different pots of money? Are they all regular savings accounts, or virtual pots?

Thank you for dropping by :) I dont have insurance for the horse, need to re-start up my BHS membership so will get covered with accidents on the road, but for normal insurance like you have found so many exceptions. Started with my old horse (the one in my profile pic) he had a major accident on leg (thorn in fetlock joint) £2.5K later (uninsured at time, thanks mum, again :)) then went to get him insured and wouldnt insure on leg, and then another claim, that also excluded) so for so much money better to save myself.

I have lots of different savings accounts, most with the same bank so when log in can get an overview of them all, couldnt do "virtual pots" is so much easier for me to see everything separate. Not all the best interest rate that I could get but it works for now :)

I dont post much but had to log in for this one. Really sorry to hear about your loss, and the hard times you have faced. The world can be a very tough place, and my best advice is to surround yourself by those who love and care for you. Its great you got out of debt. And the mortgage sounds like it going well, and you obviously budget which is spot on. Keep doing what your doing, moving forward, your doing brilliantly. Enjoy what you love, your pony or riding, and keep that head up lady. Very well done and I wish you nothing but good ahead. Darren.

Thank you for dropping by, and your kind words are very much appreciated :)

What a horrible time you have had baldybear, I think its a lovely tribute to your mum to try and do something so positive :) As you have been on the debt free boards I don't need to tell you how much help and support you get through the good times and the bad, I hope the mf board will be as helpful to you, best of luck :)

Ps, I am starting to feel left out as so many on here have horses now!

Thank you, from what I have read the MFW board is lovely :)

Re the horses this is why we are all on here or on the DFW board, we would be millionaires without them :rotfl:

So good morning MFW world :)

Yesterday spent £5 on flowers for mum, lovely pink and yellow roses, her headstone has been completed so just need to arrange to get the invoice paid (money already put aside for this).

Home insurance mystery shop completed so should be £25 hitting the bank soon. Friend gave me £30 cash for me feeding her bunnies and birds the last 2 weeks, not expected and much appreciated. Cam home and the second part of my comp win landed, already got the holiday booked to wales, 2 weeks and counting, but 10 books from penguin landed, all related to the wild and wilderness but look great :) Got notification also of another comp win, via twitter so should get a dvd landing in a few days :)

So overall a good day, slightly marred with issues of dad, his memory has definitely deteriorated a lot in the last few months, he wont accept he has issues, he has always been pig headed and stubborn and now it is just getting worse, is very hard on sister, last night when dropped him of from his choir he was moaning about food, saying about eaten same thing over and over last few days all the time, we know this isnt true, he couldnt get much more of a varied diet, but you cant reason with him. We are getting help in to help with mobility and personal care, showers etc but I think its the time to get some more professional advice to be able to live day to day with all the stress and strains of things like above of how we can deal with this more effectively otherwise we will end up having to re-assess the living situation a lot quicker than we thought, we have only just moved but care homes where he can be helped better is already on the mind. Who knows lets just see where we can get help and watch this space. He will be 82 in a few weeks so not a spring chicken, who knows. My mum was only 70 when she died, life just doesnt make sense sometimes. Was a wee bit angry with mum yesterday, she had her dad living with her when we were younger and he had similar issues with dementia etc, so she has been there and would know how to cope and what to do, but of course she is not here to help so we are flailing blindly in the dark :( My uncle (mums brother) is hopefully coming round at the weekend to drop some plants of to my sister so may ask his advice about how he coped with the previous situation, see if it helps, but dont want to pressure him too much as he is poorly with the big C too.

Wow that was a bit of a long rant, please feel free to ignore, it just helps to let of a bit of steam here.

  • Hi BB, just spotted your diary and had to read as I'm another mfw that would be rich if not for horses :)

There is so much going on in your life, you sound very strong with so much to deal with.

I don't insure my herd for vets bills, as tend to self insure due to the issues you've mentioned. Although do have the BHS gold membership for 3rd party liability.

So sorry for the loss of your mum that must have been so hard as it happened so quicky.

Also yeah a new MFW I'm and oldie one and cleared mine 9 years early but it really did pay off. Sounds like you have been through a lot of upheaval and there might be more to come with your dad. I don't have horses but my sister does and yes they are expenses and something always happens with them. Good luck with your journey I am sure you can do it.

Hello Tall Girl so pleased to see that being MF does pay of, a great incentive to keep going :)

As you say lots more upheaval probably with dad, just trying to take a day at a time and go from there.

So today he had apptmt to have new hearing aids fitted, that went ok, but he has ear wax and needs it syringed, 4-6 week wait just to have a call back from surgery and then no guarantee of an apptmt, grrr, so need to look elsewhere. Also need to stock up on batteries as we need to change every 2 weeks.

Not a NSD as 40p car parking, need to get some fresh fruit at lunchtime as well.

Sister repaid the £500 so that has gone straight to the holiday fund :D So welsh holiday all set now, got a rough idea of what I would like to do but seen as just me not too restrictive.

I do have 2 credit cards, going to keep this for now, both at 0 balance, visa and mastercard so useful when abroad etc as different payment methods, mainly use 1 as get nectar points but going to keep the trend up I have done and pay off straight away.

Money redeemed from survey site yesterday but need to wait for it to land to count.

Welcome! I loved your dfw diary but I lurked!

Morning, thanks for dropping by, I lurk on a lot of diaries too :) Just found yours and catching up!

So small spend yesterday bananas and pears and then £20 given to bro in law as he was skint before payday, luckily all above from cash from friend so no breaking into this months "budget" yet.

Old mortgage payment refund has landed, so £700 sent to insurance savings :D Got plenty to pay for the house insurance which is due in a week or so and a massive head start to next years payments.
