  • cant see my gearbox so I really don't care.
I don't know what this watch is worth as i didn't buy it. But i definitely prefer it to any watch I've ever owned and its certainly not any more difficult to operate so I'm unsure on the gearbox analogy

Well by the gearbox being more difficult to put into gear it is not as good a gearbox as one that can be easily put into gear. Just like a Tag mechanical watch is less accurate at telling the time than a digital watch makes it is a poorer watch because the primary purpose of a watch is to tell the time.

Considering that you can get copy cat watches that look the same as a Tag watch for a fraction of the price why would you pay more for a genuine one if you only care about the looks!.

I'm not saying their has to be a justification to own an expensive watch and you could just buy it because you like the name. But everyone so far is adamant that the Tag watch is a better watch than my £80 watch and won't admit that "actually it's not as good a watch but I bought it because I like the look of it and appreciate the engineering that goes into it and don't care that I've paid more for a less accurate watch".

Can't believe this thread has re-surfaced.

Since posting previously I've just added a Christopher Ward C60 trident pro to my collection.

Reasonably priced and a UK company also.

Why on earth would you pay £80 for a watch?

I can do you one that's 200m water resistant rated, full stainless steel case & bracelet, 2 year guarantee, 3 year battery life, long-term spares backup and accurate within 15 seconds a month* for £24.99.

In fact, I can do basic "tell the time" with similar accuracy - still guaranteed, still 3 year battery life, but only splashproof - for a fiver.

Both have exactly the same movement inside as typical £50 - £100 models from many brands.

Yet you chose to spend 16 times what was needed for the primary function

    * If you need your life timed more accurately than that then you really need to get a life to time :rotfl:
