I simply stated my opinion that having a watch that is never more than 1/2 a second out is a gimmick, an opinion that I stick to.
My watch is probably a few seconds off the correct time, as will be an extremely large proportion of all the watches in existence and for nearly everyone that owns one of these "innacurate" timepieces, what effect has the loss or gain of a couple of seconds had on their life?
It just happens to be accurate to within half a second because the time signal is extremely accurate so they are obviously not going to make it deliberately less accurate!.
A good example of the benefit of this is that my watch is always accurate without any user interaction. Your watch will be an hour out when the clocks change without any user interaction.
You may think it's a gimmick but considering that Mobile Phones, Computers, Set Top boxes, Car radios etc all adjust and set the time automatically. It's logical to also have a watch that sets the time automatically. Imagine if everyone thought automatic setting was a gimmick how many devices and clocks would need to be manually set twice a year.0 -

I don't think it was a good price.
You don't seem to realise the difference.
That's fair enough if you think my watch wasn't a good price. But if you think mine wasn't a good price I can't imagine what you think of a £2000 watch!. You must be even more shocked than me that people pay that!0 -

Uh oh here comes the Internet police. Sorry officer for discussing the price of watches in a thread that the OP has already got the answer to.
I can imagine your not a fun person to talk to it must go something like this...colazombie wrote: »Hello the subject of this conversation is the weather tomorrow, any deviation from this subject will result in a stern telling off. No I am not shocked, I am one (well my other half is). His watch collection may be regarded as obscene.
As it happens I wear a Tag, I have two. One is 20 years old this November (a wedding gift) and the other is 17 years old (a gift on the birth of our son). Both have been serviced albeit not as regularly as they should. The oldest has had the hands replaced and they've both had new batteries every 2 years or so. Despite being that old, they are worth more to me than the mere value alone. I wouldn't get that with a cheap watch.
My daytime Tag was £900ish 20 years ago. The newer one about 3 times that (and is currently having a clasp adjustment) but here's the other one just in case you think I'm talking rubbish.
Will it cause you an issue that I have 2? I don't wear them at the same time, but it's a bit like a piece of nice jewellery, I wear one on a day to day means and the other for going out in the evenings.

Accuracy and timekeeping is one thing, and admittedly important with a watch, but how the watch looks and the 'fanciness' has a value to people, and guess what, that's ok.
I have a 12 year old Nissan micra with over 100k on the clock. She does exactly the same 'job' as a car costing 50x as much as she did. Does that mean I think everyone with a fancier car than me is stupid and wasting their money. No. Their cars are fancier.
There are so many other things to consider other than basic functionality.
Again, money saving isn't living in the cheapest house wearing the cheapest clothes driving the cheapest car. It's getting the most out of your money. It's not spending £50 on a tshirt when you can get the SAME one for £40. It's not just only spending £2 for a tshirt from matalan0 -

I have never said it is wrong to buy a £2000 watch and I never said people are "stupid". But I've never seen a watch that has enough "style" to justify £1900 more.0 -

You can't say it is "just better", I'm saying my watch is better for £80 and given reasons to support that point of view. I can easily afford a Tag watch if I chose to buy one.
But I can absolutely gurantee my watch is not "carppy" or has anything to do with any kind of fish :rotfl:0 -

Thats your opinion though. There are plenty of fancy things I look at and think 'I prefer my much cheaper version'
But theres lots of things to consider. I just dont think that this is a place to judge what people spend their money on (unless they are here wondering why they have a eyeful of debt an lots of fancy watches)
For the record my watch cost £190 from Gown and Oars. I still worry about scratching it when I go out as in my mind its expensive and I dont want to damage it! (I will however chuck my £700 iphone around like nobodies business...)0 -

You keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about yourself.
I can say it is 'just better', I just did.0
