Totally don't get this thread ..
Watches are nothing more than jewellery these days. Everyone has the time on their phones that is most likely far more accurate than any watch as is constantly updated from ntp servers ..

If its just a "bling thing" then get yourself a lovely rolex submariner for 169 quid from here for example

If you really must have the time on your wrist, then for 2k you could have bought 5714 of these :-

And worn a BRAND NEW one on your wrist every day for over 15 years !!

Genuine question, do you drive a car?

Do you go for the cheapest option? Do you drive a Dacia?

Or do you buy a VW, or an Audi, or a Volvo?

You may do so because you appreciate the aesthetics. Just because you see it as purely functional than why should others?

Instead of wearing clothes, why not wear a potato sack, it does the same job..

No, I drive a ford mondeo. cost me £500 - has almost 200,000 on the clock and has never missed a trick in the 2 years iv owned it !!

I buy nice clothes , and if I wanted a watch I would probly buy a nice one.
But price doesn't reflect "niceness" - and 2k for a tag is crackers

However I would spend 169 on a fake rolex submariner - because it achieves the exact effect that the purchaser of a real one intends. ..

For other people to see that he is wearing an expensive watch

Why have an iphone when an Asda £10 special fone can make / take calls.

This point keeps appearing in this thread but it's flawed logic. An iPhone can go online, take good quality pictures, play videos etc a £10 phone cannot, so your paying more to get more useful features.

A Tag watch for £2000 is less accurate than my £80 watch. It also needs battery changes, my watch never needs a battery change. It sets the time when the clocks change, the tag each does not.

So your paying more money for a watch that is not as good as a cheaper one. That's the difference.

By your logic, we would only ever buy on functionality at the lowest cost. It is in our makeup to like nice things, cars, watches, shoes, handbags, wallpaper, houses, kitchens, TV's, paintings, phones, gardens.

I could watch TV on an old CRT with a wired remote control, however, I like my LED TV. A CRT would do exactly the same job, just mine looks nicer.

Trying to apply logic to an emotive desire is flawed.

    What, tramps ? crackheads ?

Genuine question ... Please name any person or group of people who would see having nice clothes as crackers .. (Note - I said "nice" , not "expensive")

I didn't say buy at the lowest cost. It's all about cost vs features and quality. Buying an item which has the best features and quality for the cost.
You also can't compare second hand goods to brand new goods when comparing the cost as this doesn't represent the true cost of the item.

So a LED TV is better than a CRT TV because it has a much better picture quality, better connections, can play videos from USB sticks. So you get more for the same price.

Luckily the 'bigger mug' theory means you can buy a premium watch and it has residual value - so if you amortise the gap between the purchase and sale prices over the period you wear it, it's less outrageous than the purchase price suggests
