Hi All you experts,
Can you please tell me what the term "Margin" means in the listing of a vehicle on BCA? At first I thought it was to do with the "Budget" auction but looking at some of the vehicles that should be worth over £5k.
I'd also like to check my understanding of the way the Service history is listed - does the date in the below example represent the latest (rather than earliest) recorded service?
SH - 8-4-09 @ 73k-4 stamps
Lastly, what happens if you buy a car with no V5 - do you simply pay an admin fee to DVLA in your own time to register the vehicle or is there some admin hoop to jump through before you can take the car from BCA? It seems like a bad sign if the car's got no V5 though so I might steer clear!
Thanks!
For interest this is what I'm looking for
MAKE - Rover
Model - 75
Derivative - CDT Connoisseur SE (ideally want cream leather!)
Engine size - 2.0
Petrol or Diesel - Diesel
Gears - Manual or auto
Mileage - Less than 100k
Registration years most interested in - 2002/2003
Colour (if important) - Ideally dark (e.g. blue or green) but not fussy
BCA venue: Newcastle
WIsh to pay less than £2k.0 -
Thanks Wig. Great to have your expert input.
Another thing I've been wondering is if there's a convention of winding the window down when photographing the cars. Often I see the drivers window fully or partially down - do they do this to show it works (assuming electric)?
Perhaps they (one guy?) just do/does it at Newcastle or is this something others have noticed/use as an indicator?
Thanks again, good of you to check availability for me as well!0 -

Nice to see that the lambs still go to slaughter at auction.
I can never understand why private buyers that no so little think buying at auction is a good idea without taking somebody with them that knows what they are doing.
Must admit i enjoy watching two private buyers bidding against each other as they normally make the car more expensive than buying from Autotrader, lol.
Even the auctioneer can see the rolled up copy of Parkers in the back pocket, bid against the wall anybody..........0 -
From my experience with the car auction of CarsOnTheWeb.com, I may be can help with some of above questions.
A margin car is a car on which the VAT is not deductable. As auction platforms such as BCA and CarsOnTheWeb are open to trade buyers only, this info is very useful to them. As a private buyer, you won't be able to buy used cars at these platforms, however CarsOnTheWeb offers interesting car information at their blog. Car price issues and legislation topics are also being discussed there.0 -
Shutup you tit. Anyone can buy a car from BCA.
Oh look a newbie posting info on a company...0 -
Indeed Harvey a not very factual first post.
I wonder if the first poster above actually works for "CarsOnTheWeb", no say it isn't so.................0 -
Hi All
I am considering attending BCA Notts or Derby looking for a Renault Grand Scenic. Why, because of any saving that could be made when compared to dealer
And, losted any PX deals on current car due to gearbox and engine damage.
In general terms, what would a 1.6/2.0 petrol, any trim, 7 seater, 05/06/07, no more than 35k on clock generally go for at auction.
And what are the hidden BCA costs I will be unaware of. My total budget is no more than £3500.
