I am looking for a:

New style Audi A3 (they started in 2003, although there were also some old style ones sold in that year).
Diesel TDI 2.0 140bhp
Colour - dont mind
Doors: 5
Price: Upto about £8500
Mileage: low as possible below 80k
Service History

I'm in London so anywhere in the South really. I am researching things at the moment with a view to making a purchase in the next two months. Thank you in advance.

Don't think the 5 door came out until later on: 2005.

So you may struggle for 8500. How about a Gold 2.0TDi 5 door? Lots of them about. could probably get 06 plate with low miles and decent spec for 8500...

Thanks very much for the reply, I don't see any prices listed. Is there any chance you could check but this time only including 3 door - I did not realise that the 5door was only released in 2005!

This is a fab thread. I have been looking for a new car (well used..) recently, and was wondering about auctions. A quick MSE search, and up pops this thread. so thanks for all the folks providing info in this thread. Do you think you might be able to have a look and see whether there are any Lexus RX400h 4x4s available please.

Either an SE or SEL spec would be great.

Gosh, that was quick. Thanks very much. I shall compare with the prices on autotrader, and see what I should be paying privately. I may just go up to Nottingham! Are there any particular riks I should look out for buying a premium car from auction? I had heard risks of dealers replacing good parts with duff ones from other vehicles, and then selling at auction (mentioned in an Honest John article), particularly with premium cars. Is this still true?

Thanks for the info on the Grand Scenics available at the moment HappyChappy. I've just one more question that I hope you or one of the other experts can answer before I go for a couple of dry runs. Do all the main fleet suppliers have databases that the trade can take the pick of the cars from, before the rest are sent to auction? I know that motability do but just wondered if the other main ones do?
