What exactly is better? Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for other people it just works better for your needs and even then it could be as simple as a tiny speed increase.
Someone who has a good SSD, good at maintaining computer may notice pretty much zero diffference and are you aware the longer you have Windows installed the slower it gets, so though you may think 10 is faster had you reinstalled 7 or 8 whichever you had you may of noticed the same speed increases, many prebuilt pcs come with bloated features that a clean untouched ISO didn't so if you compared them side by side on same pc you may think you have a totally different one.
Its not just specialist software its video games, and even mainstream software its just for the general public who just use pcs as media devices or word processing and not much else you wouldn't notice, even some office software fails to work.
Of course they wouldn't admit to spyware but check multiple websites online to see how Windows 10 (and 7 and 8 if you install certain optional updates but with 10 its forced) to find out about it.
The spyware claims are very overated almost to a conspiracy level. Any excessive amount of monitoring by Microsoft would soon be exposed by a study conducted by experts in the field. The only study that I have seen showed that no personal information is sent to Microsoft and only information about crashes and errors is sent.
I wold say it's better simply because it is guaranteed to be supported longer and it's free. I see it simply as a big free update to windows 8.1 so I can't understand the resistance to it. The only problems that I have had are with games released for windows 98/Xp and some of them never worked with windows 7 either. But that doesn't mean I should reinstall XP just because it will make these games work.
I haven't noticed much speed increase on my laptop because it's very fast anyway and from a cold boot I can log in and load the Internet browser in less than 10 seconds. But I do know for a fact it boots faster than Windows 7 because I have tried this on another computer and windows 7 was freshly installed.0 -

If its like Windows 8 then the reason why it boots faster is it lets you in before all services are loaded so it seems faster (which I notice on my laptop)
Actual usage speed is almost to no difference.
It's not free either you need a valid OS to use it and can't go back were both computers of pretty much equal power? Did you factor in services that were loaded?
Even when Windows 8 came out games that worked with 7 had issues only over time were some patched and others left as no money to update them.0 -

Because it's 'cool' to resist big corporations I guess, all I heard on release was how bad it is from people not using it, despite myself using it from day one, not heard a thing since other colleagues upgraded.
Waiting for work to authorise the upgrade now.Professional Data Monkey

It's not anything to do with being cool some people might be quite happy with 7 or 8 and don't see the need to change. The main point is the dirty tactics employed by Microsoft to force the updates now they have changed it so closing the upgrade reminder window means yes I want to upgrade. It is YOUR computer you should have the choice of what software you want to run, not a company mandating that you run what they want.
For people who don't want 10 there is https://www.grc.com/never10.htm0 -
I actually like Windows 10, but Microsoft have changed things so that "X" out of the upgrade request (which would normally stop it), now actually triggers the download, which is crafty of them.

I bought a W7 touchscreen PC secondhand which had been upgraded to W10. Seemed fine on demo but when I got it home it refused to connect to wifi. Long story short, the PC had been demo-ed whilst connected to the router by LAN cable and had no wireless card. I took it to the local repair shop to get a wireless card fitted, and they had to roll it back to W7 as they said the 2012 built machine had no available W10 drivers for some of its components. The techie guy in the shop said that MS's idea of compatibility checking for W10 install boiled down to "Is there a motherboard present and a hard disc with enough space for W10".0

Why didn't you check that the computer had wireless capabilites before you bought it?. If this is a portable computer then it would almost certainly have a built in wireless card. If this is a desktop computer then all you needed to do was buy a windows 10 compatible wireless dingle and it would have worked perfectly.
What components exactly didn't have drivera?. Also the compatibility checker definitely does not work as you described. Every computer has a motherboard so why would it check for one?.0 -
I'm happy with win 10 on this lappy but am resisting like mad on another one as it has accounting software not compatible with 10. Am retiring soon so not worth updating the sage to another version. It has tried to update but have managed to stop it so far.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Windows 10, is now the best version of Windows end of.
It takes all the best bits of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (yes 8.1 is a very good operating system, very unfairly bashed by the layman IMO)
I would advise anyone who can upgrade for free to do so.
Got it on my PC, but for me unfortunately my laptop has failed twice since 10's release to upgrade from 8.1. It upgrades and installs, but then it simply won't register, so I'm left with a version that won't update.
I believe despite have a legit copy of 8.1 installed, it has OEM issues. Going to try again right at the end of the free upgrade and If it fails again, I'm just leaving it on 8.1.
The fact that, having said that, you then go on to say that it won't install on your machine kind of proves that it is not the best version of Windows.0
