I fired up my PC this morning, to the message "Windows 10 is ready".
As I've been doing for a few weeks now, I closed the nag screen and began browsing the net.
A few minutes later, up flashed the message "Restarting", followed by "Updating to Windows 10. Do not switch off your computer",
Worried I might crash the computer completely, if I interrupted it, I left it running and went shopping.
I've come home to find Windows 10 installed, no Desktop Wallpaper image, and the resolution stuck in 1024x768, making everything ridiculously wide.
I'm now downloading an updated video driver, which is taking ages.

Do you want to go back to the previous operating system or stick with Win 10 ?0

I don't know yet.
I'm worried that, if I try to go back to Win 8.1, my PC might end up FUBAR.
Once (or should that be IF?) I get the resolution sorted, I'll have a look and see if anything else is ballsed up.
I thought MS checked that everything would work, on your PC, before updating to Win 10 :huh:0 -

I t does check what you have and then tells you what won't work after the upgrade.
If you don't get on with it there is always a roll back option.I don't like morning people. Or mornings. Or people.0 -

Yet it didn't spot the incompatible video driver
NB. After a huge wait, it finally downloaded and installed the updated driver, and my resolution is back to normal. If you don't get on with it there is always a roll back option.
As I said above, I'm a bit concerned that, if I try to go back to Win 8.1, my PC might end up FUBAR.
I've reinstalled Classic Shell, so it now looks similar to when it was running 8.1
If nothing has gone South like Sherman, as a result of the upgrade, I might as well stay with 10, than tempt fate with a rollback.
I'm still a bit  , that it would do this without my express permission.0 -
On the plus side W10 is superior to W8 or 8.1. It should take you all of 15 minutes to get used to it. I will admit to approaching the update with skepticism myself but since I have done it my computer has never been healthier or faster (and I gained about half my SSD back - after deleting the old windows directories).IITYYHTBMAD0

My aged mother got hijacked the other day too. After about 7 hours the update stalled so I told her to do a forced power off and go away for a while. When she had done that she powered on again to get a message about failed update due to an error. Her W7 is all back and nothing missing.
I'll probably look at hers when I next go down to visit. Meanwhile mine hasn't bothered yet. Mind you with broadband speeds of 1.7mb I don't anticipate it working too well (the download I mean). I'll probably take my (W8.1) laptop with me when I go to civilisation.0 -

I'm on Mobile BB, which isn't much faster that that.
Of course, the worst part of being on Mobile BB is, the update wreaks havoc with my data allowance.0 -
Its been around a while now so most companies will have drivers available for it, there will be exceptions though!0

To be fair only issue I've had is the annoyance of logging in every time I start up - although that's something I can change when it peeves me off enough. I was sceptical at the time but I've had no problems so far, though will have to fire up Fallout 4 just to be sure, y'know in the interests of pushing things.

OOps seems my daughter owes my young grand daughter an apology, daughter said she came intohouse this afternoon and her child told her the laptop was downloading windows 10.Now she said for the past few months she had been getting a popup on starting telling her it was available but she always Xed it off as she was happy enough.
She thought the child had agreed with the download prompt and that was why it was happening and refused to believe the child when she said she didnt.
I told her on phone about this thread, least it should buy the child a few favours.:D:D....0
