So basically if you have a recent PC or a laptop which uses generic parts then far less chance of a problem.

Mine's a Medion, which I bought ~ 12 months ago, but that didn't stop the graphics going all cattywampus, when it upgraded.

I came home to mine updating. I just rejected the T&C and it went back to normal.

Windows 10, is now the best version of Windows end of.

It takes all the best bits of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 (yes 8.1 is a very good operating system, very unfairly bashed by the layman IMO)

I would advise anyone who can upgrade for free to do so.

Got it on my PC, but for me unfortunately my laptop has failed twice since 10's release to upgrade from 8.1. It upgrades and installs, but then it simply won't register, so I'm left with a version that won't update.

I believe despite have a legit copy of 8.1 installed, it has OEM issues. Going to try again right at the end of the free upgrade and If it fails again, I'm just leaving it on 8.1.

Have you tried the media creation tool instead of the auto update?
I have not directly experienced this but have noticed advice elsewhere saying to give it a go if the upgrade fails.

People are generally resistant to change so I'm not surprised Microsoft have to use more forceful methods to update people's computers!.

Do you also not update your drivers because your happy with the current versions?. Do you not update your antivrius because your happy with how it currently works?. Windows 10 is just an update to windows which works a lot better than windows 7.

My virus checker is bang up to date thank you. I'm happy with 7 and I'm of the view that if it ain't broke then don't fix it. Not that it is any of your business why I don't want Windows 10 of course. I just posted a solution for those of us who want what we bought rather than what Microsoft wants us to have

So you decide to run the latest version of your anti virus software but yet want to keep running an old out of date and slower version of windows.
"if it ain't broke then don't fix it" is another way of saying "I am afraid of change". If everyone had that attitude then we would still be living in caves. That attitude means that no progress is ever made. Just because something isn't broken doesn't mean you its wrong to get a faster, more efficient and better version.

Its a shame your attitude fails as its too early in the OS's life to be at a level good enough for most people outside of the mainstream.

Your attitude is more of its new therefore its better and take the bare minimum "improvements" then say its a improvement therefore its better.

Its a little bit faster for many people but if you already have a fast pc which isn't cluttered with junk then things should load almost instant anyway.

And W7 in particular has updates for a few more years at least yet, the way you speak is its now unusable and useless.

I suppose you are fine with not being able to disable auto updates, or having spyware on your pc?

I've never had any problems with it and it works extremely well on my Laptop. I know it's better because I have used it and have experienced how well it performs.
What exactly isn't good enough about it to not be suitable for a lot of people? (I'm well aware that some people will never upgrade due to running specialist software, but this is only a very small majority).
What evidence do you have that Windows 10 has spare on it?. This is a very statement used against it but I've never seen and proper evidence to back this up!.

In my case, it didn't even say that.

One second I was browsing the net, the next second up flashed the message "Restarting", followed by "Updating to Windows 10. Do not switch off your computer".

Exactly this happened to me yesterday. Had it been OH on the laptop I would have accused him of agreeing to the popup. I am usually clued up with this nonsense. I stopped the upgrade after a few minutes after being awestruck at its arrogance of assuming I wanted the update. Anyway win7 was back to normal after the re-start.

What exactly is better? Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for other people it just works better for your needs and even then it could be as simple as a tiny speed increase.

Someone who has a good SSD, good at maintaining computer may notice pretty much zero diffference and are you aware the longer you have Windows installed the slower it gets, so though you may think 10 is faster had you reinstalled 7 or 8 whichever you had you may of noticed the same speed increases, many prebuilt pcs come with bloated features that a clean untouched ISO didn't so if you compared them side by side on same pc you may think you have a totally different one.

Its not just specialist software its video games, and even mainstream software its just for the general public who just use pcs as media devices or word processing and not much else you wouldn't notice, even some office software fails to work.

Of course they wouldn't admit to spyware but check multiple websites online to see how Windows 10 (and 7 and 8 if you install certain optional updates but with 10 its forced) to find out about it.
