I have been using this chocolate topping recipe for over 25 years, came from a lady from Czechoslovakia. You can use it on chocolate cake, or it is great for eclairs.
Use the same size spoon for each ingredient.
4 spoons of butter, 6 spoons icing sugar, 3 spoons water(or 2 water and 1 white wine) , 3 spoons cocoa. 1 egg yolk.
Melt the butter in a pan over a VERY low heat. Add the sugar and stir until dissoved. Add water and mix well. Add the cocoa and mix well. Take off the heat and mix in the egg yolk, allow to cool slightly. Spread onto cake and enjoy.0 -

Easy Chocolate Cake
6 oz self raising flour
1 and a half level teaspoons of baking powder
- sift into a bowl
6 oz soft margarine or butter
6 oz castor sugar
2 heaped tablespoons of cocoa powder
3 eggs
1 teasp vanilla essence
3 tablespoons of warm water
- mix to blend and beat well before adding to flour mix (above)
Divide the mix between two greased 7 - 8'' tins. Bake at 180 degrees for 20- 25 minutes.
Chocolate Fudge Icing
6 oz icing sugar
2 oz cocoa powder
-sift into a bowl
3 oz butter
4 oz castor sugar
4 tablespoons of water
- disolve in a pan and bring just to the boil before adding to the icing sugar and cocoa powder mixture. Stir well to remove any lumps, then pour half onto each sponge cake.
You need to work quickly with this bit as the icing will begin to set if you don't.
Put the nicest looking one on top and add loads of flake pieces or whatever decoration you like.

Pink, thanks for the recipe.....it sounds abosultely delicious. Looking forward to giving it a go......If I let the little one make with me there won't be as much mixture left as she taste tests every step of the way : ).
Iv'e also been having problems with the site today. Maybe it's just to popular.

Betty,
It's a great cake to make with little ones, but if you're anything like me when I make it with my six year old, there'll be a fight to see who can lick how much out of the bowls at the end.
