Octopus Energy reviews: Give your feedback

I need to switch from british gas standard, never switched before so am a bit worried in joining a company and making a mistake. I have searched loads of reviews but they all have some views which put you off.
Was thinking going with co op as i can make good savings, they use Octopus Energy i believe so think i will take that route, otherwise you just spend too much time looking around, and your head gets muddled. Anyway by Monday i hope to make a final decision.0 -
Swapped to Octopus about 6 months ago so far everything going swimmingly . They drop me an e-mail on the 16th of the month requesting a reading. I e-mail them back with the current and I get an immediate response with my amount due and account statement . End of month they advise they are taking the direct debit. The swap over was seamless, they seem to have got it cracked0

Very disappointed with their efficiency and customer service.
After installing solar panels in Autumn I changed to Octopus as they were the only supplier offering a “feed in tariff” ( Score 1 for Octopus).
However, since I joined them I am still waiting to be reimbursed for the energy I export. Being of a cautious nature I chose the Outgoing tariff which should reimburse 5.4p / kwh and it shows clearly on my dashboard that I am subscribed to that tariff.
I have lost count of the number of calls I have made and the promises that have been broken that it would be sorted to the point I am wondering if anybody is being reimbursed for this tariff.
They agree they are receiving the readings from my smart meter but that as far as it goes.
So, I definitely wouldn’t be attracted by this “benefit” if you are considering joining Octopus but base your decision on the rates offered for normal usage.0 -
Hi,
Having been taken over, with FlowEnergy, I have been with Octopus for only a very short time. But in that time:
1) I have been able to speak with a very churlish man who treated me like an idiot, prior to telling me, goodbye, before I could finish what I was saying.
2) Emailed Octopus, regarding this experience and other issues & I had no response after 6 days, Octopus don’t issue acknowledgements for emails sent; just another lack of attention to detail that would be helpful to some customers.
After 6 days I needed to get in touch again anyway, as I found out that they had taken the incorrect direct debit amount.
I would absolutely not recommend them.0 -
I was on a Flow Energy fixed price deal. The take over by Octopus as far as my account was concerned went very smoothly. No issues. I received my first Octopus statement a couple of days ago and it advised me that by switching to one of their other fixed tariffs I could save £23 a year. I emailed them at just after midnight today, requested the change of tariff, and sent in a meter reading.
At 2pm today I received an email from Jasmin saying the the change to the new tariff was complete and in operation. An up to date statement was also received. Absolute simplicity and by far the best customer service I have received from the many different suppliers I've used over quite a few years now.
Highly recommended.0 -
I really like Octopus but they are coming up a lot more expensive now. If you were me, who would you switch to given these savings comparisons:
People's Energy - £529
Gulf - £459
Utility Point - £428
Outfox - £427
So - £379
Goto - £375
Green. - £347
Green Network - £343
ESB - £342
`Yorkshire - £329
Avro - £326
+ lots more mainly 100-200+0 -
Easy switch
Earned money from referring others
Shame you have to enter your meter readings, although they offset it slightly by giving you spins to win money (I've won nothing)
Bills are generated from your last meter reading until the ones you have just entered, which arrive next day at the latest.0 -
Hmm, I am beginning to be very concerned about this provider. I didn't choose them, Co-Op energy chose to transfer their business to them a few months after I signed up with them, and problems right the way through to now.
First they said terms and conditions would stay the same - I chose Co op because I wanted quarterly bills and fixed price. Octopus appear to be sticking to the cost element, but messing up on the billing. First they didn't issue a bill for four months, when I queried they duly issued bill. I asked for BACS code to pay bill and was told I could not use that method (thankfully I reread my bill and found the BACS codes), but very worrying that their staff don't know which payment methods their company accepts. Now I've received a monthly bill, estimated at nearly 50% of my previous bill which covered FOUR months! What happended to quarterly billing and sticking with the same T&C I signed up to? Seems I'll have to look for another supplier.
I would not recommend Octopus, poor on all counts.0 -
Octopus increased my DD twice in 2 months, I currently am nearly £600 in credit with them.
Also ex coop customer.0 -
Whenever I’ve been more than one month in credit with them, an option has appeared in my online account allowing me to refund some of the credit. This usually takes 3 or 4 days.
You can also set your own direct debit...0
