Octopus Energy reviews: Give your feedback

I have switched to so energy. Can you remind us who it is that you decided to switch to with your knowledge of the market. Was it Symbio?
Being in the same boat myself my research seems to be saying that there is very little to choose between the various alternatives offering fixed gas tariffs with small or no exit charges. Ignoring those with dodgy reviews gives me a short list of 6 - 7 including Octopus' own Fixed. All costing more or less what I am currently paying with Tracker gas.
You have to be careful with the switching sites as they post quite a few deals which you can't get as gas only, for example pfp gets quoted but they don't do gas only.
Symbio doesn't do gas at all.
The cheapest gas only suppliers for my usage were utility point and zog.
Octopus fixed and so energy were slightly more but the same price, but I used a 40 quid referral bonus with so energy to bring the price down. I chose them because their exit fee is only £5 whereas zog and utility point are £30, plus so can read my smart meter without it going dumb.
For your usage perhaps fixing with octopus would be best, as then you have the flexibility to go onto tracker easily if it were to become cheap again. I would recommend so energy too as I have used then previously and they were excellent. Other forum users have used zog and they normally have very good things to say about them.0 -
I don't see that referral codes as a topic of general interest within the context of an energy forum should be any more tabu than for example commissions. Though I could accept that perhaps not within this particular Octopus thread if a more suitable one could be found or created for it (within or outwith MSE)MWT said:Just as a public service advisory, I wouldn't suggest a protracted 'referral' debate in this group and this thread as it is the wrong place for 'site feedback' and may attract negative attention given it has already been noted by Laura...
I believe that there is at least one online site for such codes but I did not make a note of it when I hit upon it. There is obviously a consumer market for these thingsTelegraph Sam

I have gas only with gas only with PFP though I did move my Electricity to Octopus. It might be worth ringing if you want to sign up for gas only as they have reasonable fixed rates.

Very helpful thank you since this partly mirrors my own thoughts. It could be a toss up between Octopus Fixed and So Energy - except that with the latter apparently you can get a £40 sign-up bonus. If this is what you did should we pursue this in one of the So Energy threads?niktheguru said:

You can't sign up with pfp for gas only. I tried for a family member earlier this year. On the website it asks you to call, but when you do you speak to people who don't know what they're doing but eventually was told its not possible.tlcgrantham said:I have gas only with gas only with PFP though I did move my Electricity to Octopus. If you signed up as dual fuel and then moved your electricity it is possible to stay with them for the gas.2 -
For interest's sake my latest Tracker invoice came in today showing average elec unit price @ 17 p (incl VAT) and gas @ 3.84. Both look like heading north on present trends. Gas is now above the fixed rates but not allowing for the low daily charge. Even so a switch is on the cards even if to Octopus own Fixed rate, or So Energy.

Octopus Go Faster 4 H from 2030 for example is billed at 5p / kwh. But the all tariffs page doesn't state what the rate is for other times of the day.. It can hardly be 5 p throughout. Is it 14.99P?Telegraph Sam

The price doesn't change between 3/4/5 hours for the peak rate.0 -
I can't somehow manage to do the equivalent screen shot for this region but it is the same as yours except with "(4H from 2030)" substituted and for this "5p / kwh". It must be a matter of taking the "standard rate" (which I thought was 14.99p) from somewhere else, and applying that to all other times of the day. Such is my interpretation. [I deliberately selected a late night cheap rate option]

The standard rate is the same for ALL go and go faster tariffs for your region and is visible on the tariff page octopus.energy/tariffs
For the peak charges
Octopus go is 00.30-04.30 at 5p/kwh
For go faster
3hr off peak is 4.5p/kwh
4hr off peak is 5p/kwh
