    not at all.
there is never any reason to be rude and to treat people badly.

i am merely saying that checks have to be made, and evidence requested has to be provided to prove entitlement.

u fotunately, when things start to go wrong with regards to benefit/pensions, they tend to go VERY wrong before they are finally sorted out.

it does take time, because it isn't only 1 case they are dealing with at any given time

I don't disagree checks need to be made, and I do know that HMRC are under pressure due to idiotic austerity cuts but we should not go down the path of tarnishing everyone with the same brush.

Back to my original issue - what is best? To write in or submit a pension application - the issue is not of entitlement as the Pension Service has confirmed that.

Would instructing a lawyer make any difference in speeding things along?

Can't you ring the Pension Service and ask them the best way to sort this out i.e what evidence they will accept

To be honest getting a solicitor involved now seems a bit drastic (and expensive) when the situation may be relatively easy to resolve

Your mother could either telephone or write to the DWP and explain the situation - if the birth certificate is requested, try her country of origin /the embassy of her country of origin.

So I called them and explained the situation. They said a copy of her British Passport will suffice if it has her correct dob (which it has)

I asked them that I was waiting on a letter from her GP but they said its not required. I think they can check with the passport service which is fine.

So shall I wait on the letter from the GP and send it along with the copy of her passport or just send the passport copy as requested?

I'd do exactly what the DWP asked you to

    I'd just send the passport.

So I called the Pension Service and lo and behold they said we cannot make a judgement on one piece of evidence and that you need to send in originals.

I bet if I speak to another person they will say something else. So I was told to go to the Job Centre and get an attested copy of her passport and a letter from her GP stating her dob and that she has been with the practice for 45 years!

So will have to book time off or can this be done in a dinner break? I would rather not send her passport and letter from the GP to the Pension Service.

They are old and hardly make it to town. I don't work close to town centre so unless I could do it in a lunch break.
