Retirement Pension - wrong dob

So I am helping my mother with helping her fill in her retirement pension but I started online but came across an error - the dept has her wrong dob its out by 11 months.

My mother was naturalised in the UK but her naturalisation certificate only has her year of birth in.

Her passport has her correct dob as does her NHS records. So what is the best thing to do?

Complete a paper form and send in copies of my mothers passport and NHS record card or instruct a solicitor.

My mum did not work much but her husband worked all his life, we didnt think she was due a pension until we got a letter through from the pension service but it was marked with the wrong dob but the correct NI number etc.

As the incorrect dob straddles the new pension dates for when you reach the retirement age she could lose out about 20 months pension.

Does your mother have a birth certificate as well as a passport?

What is her date of birth?

Has your father died? What was his date of birth? Was he receiving a state pension when he died?

I need to find her original birth certificate, what she has is a copy but on that it just states year of birth as 1950 so not sure if that was due to a bad copy or that is actually whats written.

Her dob 02-01-1950 as shown in her passport.

Father is alive and his dob is correct and he is receiving his state pension.

What is the best way to proceed? Apply and send in evidence or ask Pension Service to correct the data beforehand?

Your father is already receiving his state pension- he was eligible to do so before 6th April 2016?

Your mother was born on 2 Jan 1950 and even if she were born eleven months later, would still have reached SPA under the old State Pension arrangement.

Is she claiming a state pension on your father's contributions?

I need to find her original birth certificate,
Can she apply for an official copy through her natal country's UK embassy?

Just on a side note. The Pension service /HMRC made an error on my fathers NI, they thought he had an extra private pension.

He was treated like he was a criminal, it took them 3 years to investigate and accept that they had made a clinical error. No letter of apology just rude staff saying he was not declaring his income.

The worst part was we had to prove they were wrong, how can you prove nothing? Even made us sign a data request to access his pension records at a company he did not have a pension. How absurd them asking for permission to access records that didn't exist.

regardless of them having incorrect information ...
don't you think it is good that they check?
after all it is tax payers money.

say they were correct and he did have extra income ...
should they just take peoples words for what money they do or don't have?

They made the error but my father was treated like a tax cheat, they do not have a right to be rude and obnoxious. The error was so clear - it was pointed out yet it took them 3 years to investigate.

I fail to see how that is acceptable when they make backdoor deals with large corporations. I thought you are innocent until proven guilty.

HMRC have every right to investigate and look into tax affairs but they do not have a right to presume guilt then you have to prove your innocence.

They made the error yet it took them 3 years to resolve, it was a clerical error but never apologised.

You seem to think its ok to tar innocent tax paying people.
