    What's wrong with Ms?

And as a man, I am often asked for my title.

This isn't my point really - but if someone was going to address you with your title (which I'm not keen on) it doesn't sound quite right?

It's sound find saying good morning Mr, Mrs or Miss Jones but not Ms Jones! :)

As I said - probably a middle aged woman divorcee thing - why does it matter - and yes Pollycat - obviously there are more important things to be annoyed about - I'm sure the majority posts on here are equally as trivial! Does it matter? :rotfl:

I don't mind at all if it helps with drafting formal correspondence - example Ms tygermoth- I hate it where i am just referred to by my given name alone such as 'Hi tyger'

I don't know why it makes my teeth grit and i want to shout at them - i don't know you, you are not my 'mate' you are my car insurer or electricity supplier. We are not buddies!

Yes, I hate that too! Working in retail when you wear a name badge with your first name on, a lot of people then use it and act like your best bud.

It probably annoys more of the un married women but not the married ones IMO.

How do you address a formal letter? To me it sounds wrong without a title.

The only people who address me as Ms Rosemary7391 haven't bothered to ask and think it's a 'safe' option. Yet they've somehow established I'm female!

I wish the only problem I had to worry about was something so insignificant as that.

I use Ms if I'm talking to a female customer and I don't know her title. It seems quite natural now.

I use Sir and Madam a lot.

I also don't like strangers using my first name.

It is a safe option, surely? What would be safer, assuming you have a female name?

Is Mr not a safe option for someone with a traditionally male name?

Well same here, but as the OP says, a lot of the topics posted on here are equally as trivial.

If they know my name, they almost always could've asked for my title at the same time. Mr is a bit safer for men seeing as it's the only option outside of professional ones, but surely it's just polite to ask? Ms feels like they don't really care.
