Sat 7th/Sun 8th May - what small DFW things will you do this weekend?

PurpleFairy26

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning frugal pals :hello:
Baileys Babe I hope your DH is ok and it doesn't cause you to much disruption and he's not in too much pain.
Up earlyi know now why I don't go out very often. Great night, great friends but DD up at 5.25  put it this way I don't function very well on less than 8 hours :rotfl: oh well, at least it's the weekend
My list for today:
Found some mini croissants in freezer yesterday, will go in oven shortly for breakfast
Family bbq later, probably just one meal today as we won't want anything later, will freeze unused meat/ buns
Check banking, FPL, surveys
Wrap 4 things selling on fleabay tomorrow ready for once paid, keep a check on others
Change beds, two done (well stripped) and one load on wash. Eldest small still asleep so thought I'd wait for her to get up before I strip her bed :rotfl: will be dried outside :T
Investigate higher rate savings account - ideally with my bank as I like logging on and seeing it all in one place
DD to dance exam - will go for a walk whilst she is there - did nearly 18,000 steps yesterday although didn't do a run, must try for today or tomorrow
Sync to b0unts
Take photos for surveys that I'm doing as part of the questionnaire
Replace filter in vacuum that has arrived
All for now, back later. PF.0 -
Hello there my lovelies :hello:
Thanks for starting us off PurpleFairy :A
I'm having a weekend at home. Was meant to be going to a yoga festival thingy but I'm not now - going to send my apologies and save my money. Is a bit of a shame as it would've been great but we didn't have anyone to look after the dog and I would've had to drive home for an hour and a half after it finished at 11pm, so it wasn't really an ideal situation anyway...
I'm going to text my pal to see if she wants to come over this evening...although I suspect she wants to do something this afternoon...Either is good I guess - just know that if we do something this afternoon I won't get as much done around the house as I'd like to.
Have a washing up on the airer... I really want to get a rotary airer for outside - this is such a tempting spend!!!!
Need to cut the grass - save on gardener fees
Brekkie from stores - pain au chocolat treats
Trip to @ldi spurred on by last week's low spends...
Update YNAB :A
£3 survey in my inbox :T
Call mum/sis with free weekend minutes
Passing books I'm not going to read to pal - have asked and she wants them so not just lumbering them on her
Got written reply from plus net saying they have asked for our details to be cleared from DCA's database so we can ignore further letters....have a letter ready for DCA too:mad:
Wow - sorry for boring you with my brain dump/mammoth post!!
Catch up soon guys :beer:0 -
Morning! Thanks for starting PurpleFairy
No chance of a lie in here this morning as poochy had me up at 6.50am demanding to go out for walkies!
Looking forward to a chilled weekend and the good weather. I'm not enjoying work at the minute for various reasons so any day I'm not there is a good day
Banking/ FPL/ surveys to check
Local election results to check - unfortunately we're included in a posh ward in our town so I know what political persuasion will have been elected but I'll still check just in case
I'm going to pop into town this morning as I could do with a cheap pair of flip flops now the warmer weather is here and I can't live in boots. We've got friends coming over this afternoon so we're planning a trip to the local park to enjoy the sunshine
All meals from stores. OH did a big vat of meat chilli yesterday which has been divided into 10 boxes (20 portions)
Have fun in the sun everyone :cool:02 0% £719.20 £559.36

Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Hi May Marvellous-oes,
Thanks for the starter PF.
I have been reading the last couple of days but not had time to comment on everyone's joys and woes individually. What a lot has gone on!
Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Month Eleven:
* Our saga with a wonky Samsung phone rumbles on... Samsung-ma-geddon...According to the online repair tracker it currently has an "engineer assigned" and the repair is "in progress". I suspect this is South Korean speak for "sitting in a box, on a shelf, in a queue." At least it is doing this for free. Now says "Repair pending". I do hope this is progress....further update. Now says "Ship out for Product Return" maybe that means it's on it's way back to us?
* Cooker is throwing a fit. Will look at it later on today. I think there's a simple solution. Fixed it.
* Go for a swim as part of my oddysey to swim 5km over the course of May, in 1km chunks. Today is chunk 2. How is this moneysaving? I used to take part in very expensive sports: this odyssey will cost me a grand total of £14 including a pass to the sauna and steam room. Done. Lovely and quiet in there today.
* Use complimetary toiletries from last month's hotel stay at the pool. Done
* DW and I have our Wedding Anniversary in the middle of next week; may do the celebrating this weekend. Will budget for something sensible. Chinese tonight.
* Need to clean the whole house. Will do this with Stardrops and washable cloths. Been a bit lazy lately so today I need to get stuck in. Upstairs done...time for an ice-cream bought on offer from Sainsbury's at 50p each rather than from the ice-cream van at £1.50 each....Sitting Room done...peeks into the Kitchen...dear G-d...
* Re-advertised deep fat fryer on Freecycle.
*DW has been working on the vegetables.
* Repaired DW's threadbare jeans with two iron on patches inside. £1.75 from eBay.
How about you folks?

Good morning All
BB I must have missed some news re your OH? Hope he is ok.
PF Sending coffee
Small things so far today.
1. Went to the supermarket. Added 2 receipts on. Was given a triple points coupon for my next shop for Mr S by the customer service desk.
2. At Mr S stuck to my list and bought all item at basics level.
3. When paying used to change. And found another coupon for triple points hanging out of the machine so used it right away.
4. Packed picnics for us all as we are now out till 3pm.
5. Taking a bag of dvds to our local trade in shop. I was going to music magpie them but they were only offering £5 and we go to the trade in shop anyway to get son cheaper games for his Xbox. I don't think we have ever paid full price for a game.
6. Took the washing on the airer out to the garden to dry quicker.
7. Used up 2 rashers of cooked bacon to make us all BLT for the picnic.
8. Dinner is own brand pasta and sauce but with nice chorizo and cheese.
9. Packed water for the trip
10. Will declutter the hall this weekend. Now the season's have changed we don't need winter coats out which frees lots of room.
Back later

afternoon guys
thanks for starting the thread PF :A Hope you manage to get through the day until the littles are in bed x
Legomum  poor thing! Hope you're not in too much pain and your family and taking the tenderest care of you x
La E - congrats to Mr La E :j I kinda flet bad when you said you feel you shouldn't lift a finger in the house as your dh isn't at work - touched a nerve! I do try to do as much as the house stuff as possible so oh doesn't have to do much. But I am terrible at being tidy and tidying up. Oh is so much better and efficient. I can spend ages tidying, feel really pleased with what I've done but then it doesn't actually look any tidier!am working on this!
Not much planned for today. It's such a glorious day we're staying home in the garden and then I have work this evening at 6. It's a friend's birthday bash tonight so I will call in on my way home from work to buy him a drink. Due to the time will only be out an hour or so, won't spend much money and can drive back
Have been surveying the greenhouse germination rates - looking good :j
Have surveyed the pots/tubs/bags I have for growing and can see I need a few extra big receptacles. Am trying as much as I can to use recycled things - so have a catering tub (cadburys hot chocolate and it's massive) I got it a few months ago when oh and I had gone out for dinner. It was the end of the night and staff were cleaning up and this guys was taking the rubbish out and I asked if I could have it (much to oh's embarrassment!)
All meals from stores
Make some muffins
Have organised with ds that he is coming to visit for breakfast tomorrow morning and bringing his girlfriend! He hasn't had a proper girlfriend for years!
Probably bring home milk & bread from work that hasn't been usedDF as at 30/12/16

Good afternoon everyone :hello: Thanks for the start PF
Well I managed a lie in this morning - until quarter to nine. Not that I'm feeling great for it - I had my first alcohol in about 5 months last night and am suffering slightly today
Legomum - hope you are doing as well as you can be. I can't imagine how painful and inconvenient a broken wrist would be. Take care of yourself.
BB - hope that your OH recovers soon.
So, after my stressful week and meeting with the Head yesterday - today is officially a day off for me. I've been in the shower and then promptly gotten back into my pjs for the rest of the day. Something tells me that I won't get my 7000 steps in today
Other plans though:
:cool2: Check banking and PAD
:cool2: Washing
:cool2: rest and relax
:cool2: clean the bathroom
:cool2: get kids to do their chores
:cool2: have some girl time with dd while the boys are at football
:cool2: Desperately have to find something to do with veggies. I have a long list of fresh veg which is past its best, but due to my recent moods I haven't bothered myself to do anything with them. I need to research what to do with them.
:cool2: Lots of crochet
:cool2: nap if I need one
:cool2: bit of reading
Think that's it for now. Have a good day everyone - we have a grey day here so hope those of you in the sun are enjoying. :jNot giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt
Time to take back control
