Brexit vote

Sorry if this has already been addressed elsewhere, but life is too short to go scrolling through pages and pages of other threads.
My question is : What is the concensus of opinion regarding a Brexit vote and the impact it would have on private pensions funds?
My problem is: I am due to retire at the end of this year, but I am concerned that a Brexit vote could negatively affect my Standard Life Pension pot.
What should I be doing now?

it will have no impact on pensions. My problem is: I am due to retire at the end of this year, but I am concerned that a Brexit vote could negatively affect my Standard Life Pension pot.
if you are talking about investments rather than the pension, then you shouldnt be in risk based investments at this point. So, again, there shouldnt be any impact. That is unless you are going into income drawdown but then you will likely live for another 25-30 years. So, short term issues should not be a concern. If you are buying annuity then you should be in cash.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Personally, regardless of the Brexit vote, if I was approaching retirement I would be looking to have say 5 years spending money in a safe asset such as government bonds that I had been slowly moving over in the last 5 - 10 years. Probably have 1-2 years in cash. That way even if my share portion dropped 50% I wouldn't have to touch it. This is for drawdown.
What are you invested in? If you are in a lifestyle fund you already be heavily in bonds by now in preparation to buy an annuity.0 -
BREXIT may have a huge negative impact on your pension.
BREXIT may have a huge beneficial impact on your pension.
Both statements above are true. Depending of course on which camp you're in.
In reality no one actually knows.
So ignore all the scaremongers and ask yourself this. Do you want one government telling you what to do or do you want two organisations telling you?
I know what I prefer, but it's up to you.
Just remember no one actually knows.

If in doubt just ask yourself whether you want to vote for a proposition supported by both Cameron and Corbyn.Free the dunston one next time too.0

Do you mean short term impact or long term impact?
If you are worried about the short term, then Brexit would cause an immediate massive crash of the UK stock market as everyone panicked and withdrew their funds. Or it could cause an immediate and massive rise in the UK stock market as everyone decided that Europe was doomed and rushed to the UK as a safe haven.
Longer term, being out of the EU trading block would be a huge drag on UK growth meaning your investments would significantly underperform expectations. Or else being free from the huge drag of EU regulations would cause UK growth to significantly rebound as we established much more pragmatic and sensible trading arrangement with both Europe and the rest of the world.
I hope that's cleared things up for you.0 -
