How about the fact that you have not had to fight in a European war.

Or, given that this is a board about money, not had to pay for one.

400,000 American, British and French boots based in Germany between 1945 and 2000 stopped there being any major war in Europe. Nothing to do with the EU.

The whole EU project started out originally to prevent another war and to re-integrate Germany. War & peace and the European project (to avoid all the various initials over the years!) are very much linked.

But dont the leave campaigners want us to leave to "get our sovereignty back" so that everything will be better then and we will be able to start our own wars without having to rely on Europe to start them.

For reasons I fail to understand "sovereignty" is a big issue with the leave campaign.

    Madness.

Well I certainly feel the EU is great as a trade organization.

Where it falls down is EU courts and laws having precedence over UK laws. I really feel that the interpretation of the human rights regs re having a right to family life etc need to be re written or more likely re interpreted.

As I dont think convicted criminals and terrorists should be able to take advantage of this (and block deportation among other things). No one will stop their families following them abroad once deported if they want their family with them.

The European Court of Human Rights though is nothing to do with the EU.

So disarming Germany and basing 200,000 troops there was just a waste of time and energy then?

How many people can name their MEP? When are the books going to be signed off for even one year? Accountability is key to democracy and it appears to be subservient to the European Plan.
Another way to look at the EU is its treatment of Cyprus - one of the smallest countries and the one given a haircut while the PIGS were allowed to carry on. Treatment of the weakest is the measurement of any organisation and again the EU is found wanting.

But isnt signing up to the ECHR mandatory to be a member of the EU?

How we could ever remotely think about ditching the ECHR I just dont know. We were instrumental in setting it up after the second world war, leaving it would be a dark day for this country.
