My local supermarket is the second busiest Waitrose in the country, in the centre of a highly visited city. They had a lot of coffee tourists, so now you have to ring it through the till With a MyWaitrose Card in order to get a cup.

The Waitrose near my work also has the cups with the staff on the checkouts. Footfall is huge (there's are 000's of workers around), and it's within sight of a starbucks and costa etc so very tempting for everybody at lunch. There's always queues. I thought the staff giving out the cups was normal.

Sorry people who have replied, very amiss of me not to reply in good time. I will reply to you all as you were most kind to write a small ditty for me.

holldays, who is Merrywether, is that your staff?
Quite, Bobcrowther I am glad to hear that it is not just me, and I have to wholeheartedly agree with your views.
ratechaser, I agree with you as well, although I am not sure what a 'maxpax' supplier is.
Herbalus, thank you for your reply, maybe those giving out the cups should check the previous spend of the person requesting the cup to see if they should be allowed a cup.

I may gather the views here and pen a short letter to the head-man at Waitrose to see what he thinks of the situation. i am sure that is not what he intended when introduced the free beverages.

Its really annoying, but what pixxxes me off is the people buying only £5 of goods just to get a free Daily Mail. Disgraceful.

    You fool.:)

A coffee is £2.15. The Daily Mail is 65p. You only have to buy £2.20 worth of goods to qualify for the free paper.

Or even less, if there's a suitable BOGOF or multibuy running.
