MSE News: BT announces steep price rises for home phone and broadband – how to beat t

"I'm pretty sure I could get a proportionate refund on the line rental saver if I took it all the way to the ombudsman..."
Sometimes possibly not necessary.
A couple of years ago I did manage a refund of remaining lrs from Plusnet, about 9 months worth and my contract witten off, after they made numerous errors with my billing. I had to kick up quite a fuss though on the 'phone and their forum.
I did stay with them in the end because the alternaives available at my exchange, at the time, were not too promising.
I have heard of others achieving a lrs refund after persevering. I suspect PN cave in eventually just to make the problem disappear.:D0 -

If it does then it is high time line rental was lowered and the price for BT Sport reflected by adding the price to BT Sport. Then those who only want a telephone are not cross subsidising those who want to sit idly watching football matches.
If it did then would not the ISPs that do not have BT Sport have a significantly lower line rental ??
Do Sky cross subsides football with their line rental .
Suppose VM who do not subsidize sport would be a significant saving on line rental .0 -
Just had an Email, might jump to SSE
£21 a month for 18 months , upto 76mb fibre, line rental and 24/7 calls
£130 cashback
Seems too good to be true ?

I have just received the dreaded email. I renewed my contract in March and the first bill they got it all wrong overcharging me for my April bill. after complaining they said it was sorted and would refund me in my May Bill. which they did, but got another element of my contract wrong, they were charging me for BT sport twice? I rung and complained again and now will get the refund in June.
Now they are planning to put up my prices? and only just got the bill so I cannot even get in touch until tomorrow.
to say I am not happy s an understatementThanks to all who post compsITV winners membersclub#20 -
I've not received any letter or email yet from BT advising me of the price increase. Could I give notice to them now that I wish to leave or do I have to wait for a letter or email from them? Thanks0

Wait otherwise you may be breaking the contract .
Others have been charged to break the contract .0 -
Simple enough process and once you've done it once and discovered how simple it is you'll almost certainly repeat the process.
You shouldn't lose internet access for more than an hour at most.
Thanks.
I am currently with Talk Talk and will try to play with the switching game of Internet to get Cashback, and new customer deals .....
My line rental is still one year away, but my broadband will need to be renewed in September. I h=thin the Talk Talk is deliberately put this mismatching of Line rental Expiry date and Broadband.
Would you or someone else please explain what process do I need to do, the process involved to make it easy switching and not loose internet connection more than a day ??0 -
After reading about the upcoming increases by B.T., I 'phoned them. With very little prompting, my bill was halved, providing I extended my contract to 2 years. Thank you.0

May I ask how much your old monthly and your re-negotiated deal is since I am also in the process of re-contracting with BT.0

The wording of the announcement is incorrect. It implies the cost of calling 0870 numbers is the same as calling landline numbers and that there is a connection fee.
This is not the case.
The cost of calling 0870 numbers is the same as calling other 087 numbers and uses the same split-charge pricing system as is used for 084, 09 and 118 numbers.
This is the third time that BT has made this error.0
