  • I called the BT call centre this week and they confirmed that my broadband will go up by £2.70 in July. I joined BT in November on a promotional discount deal. When MSE covered the announcement of the rise last month they quoted: "BT says customers who signed up to broadband promotional deals won't see broadband prices go up."
Anybody know the origin of the quote or in the same situation and managed to argue the case with BT? Also, BT tell me that I can cancel but as I went for the Line Saver option, paying 12 months line rental in advance, I won't get the remaining rental refunded if I cancel. I don't believe this was stated in the original terms when I signed up. Again, looking for anybody who's had the same argument with BT

If you have received the price increase letter you have 30 days to cancel BB .
    Check your offers .
Find an ISP that will give you BB on BT line rental . Phone BT re price and see if you can get a better deal .
  • I recently joined BT for phone and broadband about 2 months ago not knowing that they would be putting up charges.. Martin Lewis said that you can get out of a contract because of this. I rang BT and yes you can get out of a contract but cannot get a refund on the line rental which I paid up front for 1 year £194. Can anyone tell me if this is correct.

No, thats not correct. You need to complain and escalate it. Do it forcefully but politely. Ofcom have given provision that customers can cancel contracts WITHOUT PENALTY. And without penalty means exactly that. I've helped others with this, including Plusnet customers. They all got a full refund. And there are lots of other regulars on here who can give you help and advice as well.

Thanks for posting the link to check new prices. I got my email yesterday and found it quite confusing trying to get this information.
Now I have it I can do comparisons and will ring them to see if they'll reduce it.

I am attempting the line rental saver argument. Slowly and without success as yet. See my previous posts.

Yes, I've helped 2 people with this who both got full refunds. One BT and one Plusnet customer. For those wanting an ALR refund they need to escalate it by making a firm complaint.

The tact that should be taken is that Ofcom have given provision for price increase cancellations to happen WITHOUT PENALTY and without penalty means exactly that, so the T&Cs on ALR cancellation don't apply in these cases (price increase cancellations).
