Sharing hotel room with co-worker

To be honest, I don't think I should be paying anything at all to attend some company training.

It's usually a group of people going, as opposed to just two, and not always an even number anyway, so my offer to pay for half of the room cost is reasonable.
In your view...perhaps your employer feels sharing is reasonable as well.

Your employer may feel it will foster team relations!

Is no one else objecting? How many are going? Is it an equal m/f split?

That would be my view also.

How can the company demand that everyone shares if there is not a full split M/F. Maybe there is, but that is not the point, there should be an option to pay the balance if you want your own room.

    Doesn't seem right to me.

I would have grave objections to sharing with ANYONE. I would pay the difference, no problem and have done willingly. But my employer paid some (most really) of the charge in the first place. Single occupancy was my choice.

I've never had to do this, but my husband said that it was the norm in some of the large companies he has worked for because the hotel costs were so large.

He said that some people (mostly women) would pay extra to have their own room, so I think it is unreasonable that your employer doesn't allow this.

I would refuse point blank to share a room with somebody I barely know. Working with somebody isn't the same as really knowing them. To be honest, I wouldn't even be comfortable sharing a room with somebody from work who I do know well. I value my privacy and space - always have.

And if the employer is being inflexible you'd presumably be ok not working for them again?

Just tell them you suffer from sleep violence, and have a tendancy to strangle and punch people in your sleep.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

How do your colleagues feel about this? If you're all unhappy then surely you can go, as a group, and request a rethink?

Point out to your employers that if you haven't slept well then their money hasn't been so well spent on the training course.

Could you not suggest a cheaper hotel but with one person to a room?
