I wasn't aware that it was particularly strong and influential in the early 70's

    Is that my fault?

Well it is if that strength is largely in your imagination. ;)

Scare tactics by obumma, what he says and what he does are 2 different things

It almost doesn't matter if its just a negotiating position or not.

The US is obviously keen to do a deal with the EU, but TTIP negotiations have been dragging on for years and seemingly still have a few years left in them.

Even if the US is keen to do a deal with the UK then unless we capitulate on most negotiating points and give the US a great deal I doubt you will see a UK deal being negotiated any faster than that.

Of course and we would continue to do so post Brexit, but people seem to keep promoting the idea that we can quickly replace the lost trade with the EU post Brexit with trade growth in other areas.

That is unlikely to happen without new trade deals to other large markets, and the US is the largest one to have access to outside the EU.

we trade with US without a 'trade deal' as do the EU and will continue to do so.
    why do you doubt that?

why would we loose trade with the EU27 after brexit? Are EU27 planning to exit WTO?

Are the WTO going to step in and say we have to have completely free trade in goods and services with rEU after we exit?

    Obviously not.
I would expect the EU27 to trade on the same terms as they trade with the rest of the world unless we mutually agree a better deal.
Why would you expect anything different?
The EU already trades with about 170 countries without it being being an issue including USA

What do you expect them to do?

So we're in agreement then, there will be increased barriers for the UK to trade with the EU and a very likely decrease in trade as a result.
