I bought a Clearblue digital with conception calculator (or something). After you've peed you get an egg timer showing, then for me, it flashed up the word 'pregnant' (if you aren't then you get 'not pregnant') and underneath a few seconds later it said '1-2 weeks' which it uses the level of hormone to work out (which makes me by doctor's workings out 5-6 weeks pregnant apparently, it is all v confusing).

So if you have the one I had which was £15 for two tests  then you get not only an unmistakeable answer but also an idea of when you conceived (I'm guessing it's not 100 per cent accurate on that as we are all different) but as I say that is different to when the doctor works it out as he will use the first day of your last period, which would make me six weeks today.

I did take a picture as the readout only lasts 24 hours and has now gone :( but I'm not at home today so can;t post it yet. I will do though so you know what they look like.

Hee hee - my first period after coming off the pill was soooo different to those when I was on it that I did a pregnancy test right after it  . It was negative, of course!

I never used to get ANY period pains at all on the pill (Marvelon for about 16 years), and that first month I had cramps, sore back, a cold, a funny metallic taste in my mouth, seemed ('imagined') I had an enhanced sense of smell... I was symptom spotting with the best of them and convinced myself that even though I'd had my period (lighter and shorter than when on the pill) I must really be pregnant! DH even had a job to convince me that there really wasn't a BFP on the test... looking back now I was totally deluded :p
  • Brilliant news about the recent spate of BFPs... long may they continue! Good luck girls!!

  • I definitely think the hormones are screwed straight from coming off the pill. That was about 22 months or so ago for me and things have definitely settled down. Cramps are very mild, no weird imagined tastes/smells and still nice and light and manageable. I count myself lucky!
