  • Hi xcat_girlx

I'm not sure but I think they say it takes around 3 months for the pill to get out of your system? - somebody correct me on this one if I've got it wrong.
Same for the folic acid to get in to your system I think

Good luck and I hope the comments on the other thread didn't put you off too much! x

in theory, i could get pregnant as soon as i stop taking it. but i think thats just a warning they put on the packet.

the other comments, if anything, made me even more certain i wanted 1!

b.f is v.excited. dont think my parents will be too thrilled when it happens but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!

Hun it's not just a warning - you could ovulate immediately after you stop the pill and concieve pretty much straight away (this is not uncommon) - I did with my first pregnancy which I miscarried at 9 weeks and was told by my consultant that's why they recommend that you ideally stop the pill 3 months beforehand and use condoms to give your body a chance to get it out of your system.

Glad the comments didn't put you off - thought you were going to get lynched by the breastfeeding mum's there for a bit but luckily the main hardcore didn't post  I've been shot down in flames a few times by a couple in particular!

eeeeeeeek, im debating a trip to the doctors next week to check. also to mention my PCOS worries as well. nowhere on the packet does it say that like which really it should!

i was reading about the hormone surge you get which i was hoping might work to our advantage but after reading about your m/c im a bit worried now. v.sorry to hear that btw.

yeah, it was getting a bit heated like! at the end of the day, everyone is entitled to an opinion and to give advice, its what we're all on here for i guess.

Sorry I didn't mean you to think that everyone that concieves immediately after stopping the pill has a miscarriage - I think that they say 3 months as a guide to when the pill should have left your system and your cycles should have settled (which is not the case for everyone I know)
With the folic acid they say to start taking 3 months beforehand to protect against neural? spelling!? tube defects.
I would think once you stop taking the pill your cycle should get in to a pattern so that should help if your worried about PCOS - most likely the doc will get you to monitor whether your ovulating or not I reckon.
    Good luck with it all

Yes I agree - everyone is entitled to their opinion but there are some that think their opinion is the only one! - I'm a bit tentative of posting on the parent club threads now tbh

fingers crossed, touch wood and everything else at my age things should b realivtly smooth but you never know.

my cycles go from 23-30 days anyways so settled will be a novelty. my concern is after taking depo it took a year for them to come back at all........

im going to get some ovulation sticks anyways i think, always worth knowing, esp with an irregular cycle so i can work out due dates etc.

i suppose we all want to think ours is the right opinion/option for our kids!

  • Hi there,

I have been a lurker around lots of the MSE boards for the past....well, ages but now I am TTC I finally feel the urge to join in if you will have me?

My hubby and I have had an "interesting" 18 months to say the least - when we announced our engagement both my brothers OH and his sister announced their pregnancy so as you can imagine our wedding was instantly a low priority for everyone other than us and since the babies have been born we are feeling more & more distanced from everything. Its like we are almost 2nd class citizens in our families, though noone is doing it on purpose we can both feel it.

I was then made redundant from my 8 year job just 6 weeks before our wedding which was a huge shock. Then on my wedding day my grandma died suddenly - again no warning, a massive heart attack so the whole day was tinged with so much sadness & grief.
THEN on my honeymoon I was taken ill & rushed to hospital with severe dehydration - only 5% away from death they said - which is nice.

Since all this we have been trying to sell our flat in London (to no avail) & have moved elsewhere but having to live with my parents till we sell which again isnt ideal - esp when you are newly married and TTC!;) .

Anyway I am not here for a whinge, I am here to say I want a new start and my wonderful, wonderful husband and I are TTC for a little baby of our very own (though I dont have huge confidence as after our run of luck I am sometimes convinced that nothing good will happen to us!).

I have been off the pill since Jan, stopped using any contraception on our wedding night (though as you can imagine, it was more about grief than BD that night) and so far nothing. I am lucky in that a friend of mine is also TTC at the same time so we can share our crazy stories - we have both been convinced so often that we are pregnant its almost amusing!

Ooh I think I have gone on a bit there, sorry! Good luck to everyone here, I mean it sincerely and I look forward to supporting and being supported on this exciting journey...

cat_girl - depo is very different - first with the pill you are on you will get a bleed like normal - this is a withdrawal bleed - then 2-4 weeks later you get your proper period. You could in theory fall pregnant any time in this period - but you will still have a raised hormone level in your blood - I spoke to the nurse at my surgery before we started TTC and she advised to as a minimum wait until the proper period had been and gone - ie the real period.

    Hi reetyre

Welcome to the thread and good luck!
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
  • Thanks for the advice :)

I am going to do a test tomorrow morning, as I've had nothing more today than a bit of spotting when I went to the loo (Urgh, TMI!). I've not felt so sick, but I still have a metallic taste in my mouth, and still have a headache.

At least if I've done a test and it's confirmed as a BFN I can then start from scratch with the OV tests next week - they arrived today, so I'm all set.
