Hi peeps - not been on here for a while - hope everyone is ok.

I'm seriously considering getting some of the OV tests from Access Diagnostics. The thing is, do I buy a 5 pack, a 10 pack or a 20 pack?

I have no idea if I am actually OV-ing, especially as I was on Depo for about 4 years (stopped it about 20 months ago and have been ttc for 9 months). My af is reasonably regular at between 24 and 27 days. So when do I start testing? Should I get a 2 pack and test right from the end of af?

I'd be really grateful for any advice - I'm so narked about it all today. It doesn't help that my office is full of pregnant women and new and expectant fathers (well maybe not full but you get my drift!).

    Thanks,

    Annie x

    Hi Annie

I posted a 6.5 % discount code for Access diagnostics last week which is still valid if you do order I'd go for the bigger pack of tests - cheaper to buy them this way.
If you have regular 28 day cycles I would start the ovulation tests a few days after AF has gone (or you could start testing right after if your cycle is sometimes shorter.
If you get more tests you can afford to start testing earlier and then hopefully you'll get an idea of when you are ovulating.

Hope your feeling better today x

Bloody pregnancy tests - I saw an advert the other day for one that you could use 6 days before AF was due !!! I'm so tempted !!! if nothing else it will put me out of my misery and stop me "symptom spotting" for the next 6 days !!!!

But will it really stop you symptom spotting for the next 6 days? :D

Personally I wouldn't trust these early tests. Obviously if you get a BFP then all well and good but if I got a neg I'd be thinking that it was maybe too early....then I'd use another one....and maybe another one....:rotfl:

On the other hand, testing too early and getting BFP then your body deciding this pregnancy isn't viable and shedding it (which is fairly common according to my dr) as a heavier and more painful than normal AF, would be heartbreaking. Whereas if you hadn't tested so early, you'd have been none the wiser and assumed it was AF and perhaps it'd save people from the heartache of conceiving and losing it in such a short space of time.

Like Gracie (i think) said before, if only tests were of the standard they were years ago, when you couldn't detect pregnancy until a good few days had passed since AF was due, then people wouldn't know of the 'not viable' pregnancies that do happen quite a lot.

Plenty of arguements for testing early and also to not test until a few days after AF was due I think!

im considering getting tested for PCOS. i have several symptoms, such as dark hair on my stomach and chin, irregular periods before i went on depo injection, and problems with gaining and losing weight around my stomach. do you think its worth mentioning to the doctor?

Worth mentioning and they may well test you for it, but with mine the dr wouldn't do tests for PCOS until TTC for a year and me monitoring my cycle for ovulation. The 12 months came and went, and he's trying me on 2 cycles of Clomid to stimulate ovulation (on 2nd one now) and if that doesn't work then tests for PCOS are next.

I guess it depends on your local authority's guidelines on whether they'll do anything for you this early.
  • Just spotted this thread at wanted to say good luck to all who are trying. I was concerned about ttc because my hubby had problems with his ex previously and had to go through lots of different ways for them to have their two kids. I had been on various pills before we started trying but I started to take Pregnacare (I know it's expensive!!) and I think that this helped carried on with it most of preg). Probably took about 12 months overall to get preg but was fun trying!! Just try not to focus on the baby too much and try to enjoy the act rather than the exact time etc for optimum chances as this can start to stress you out. Only got pregs when I just started relax about the whole thing, know it's easy for me to saying seeing as i have the goods now, but just wanted to offer my advice, hope it helps someone.

im debating not mentioning that we're TTC as i think they'll be more likely to say, come back in 6 months or whatever. more go down the root of having had no regular cycles to my periods before i went on depo injection, hair on chin & stomach getting worse, having stick thin arms and legs but a massive stomach etc.

You don't need to tell me, I must be well known on here by now for not believing in testing until at least 4 or 5 days late :D
After my first mc I was told that there are lots of women who have very early mc's but don't know it because, as you say, their body expels it as a heavy period.
In a way I wish this was how my body dealt with losing a pg because at least then I would know, but in another way I'm glad it doesn't deal with it in the "normal" way because I wouldn't want the bleeding and pain.

Well AF is due on Sunday (I think, am a bit vague on dates this month :o )

Anyway because I am so impatient I've done 2 tests already in the last week! Of course they were neg. So I'm going to try and hold off testing now until at least this time next week if AF hasn't arrived. I have to say though I'm not very hopeful - I don't 'feel' any different really apart from boobs being slightly tender. But then again, saying that, I had no idea I was pregnant with DS 6 years ago so not really a valid sign!

Hugs to you GracieP and Clueless xxx
