    Oh Gracie, so sorry to hear that. I'd get yourself to the docs tomorrow if I were you, see what they have to say.

    I hope OH is around, but I'll send some big **hugs** anyway.

    Started bleeding about and hour ago. In quite a lot of pain. Stabbing, shooting pains, in my sides and stomach. By back aches and I even have twinges in my bum.

    OH had to work today, so I made him take me with him. I'm sitting in a dingy, basement edit suite in the middle of Soho, but it's better than being alone. I'm now kind of relieved I took the test last night. If not I'd have been out walking my dogs when the bleeding started. I don't know how I'd have coped.

    I wish pregnancy tests were a decade behind. 10 years ago I'd never have gotten a positive this early, and I'd just think I had a late and severe period.
  • Hi all, another long termer here. I may stop lurking/posting for a while as the whole thing is starting to get to me really. I am 39, and have just found out that my FSH levels are really high. We are just about to start IVF again - 2 weeks - and we will do it the drug free way as the drugs will not stimulate more eggs so not worth while. We have being ttc for 5 years since DS was born, and I always thought it would happen in the end, but faced with the fact of my declining fertility has really knocked me for 6. I knew I was getting on a bit!! but being faced with the reality - I think I would have prefered not knowing and remaining in hope. So Im really depressed, when I should really be putting my all into the next few months. I am having as many goes as they will let me before my 40th birthday, and then hanging up my booties and although not giving up altogether, will start to have to come to terms with the fact that my child bearing years have finished, and I do not have the big family I have always hoped for.

    Sorry to be depressed and rambling - I really do wish you all the best with your endeavours, and have learnt some lovely new phrases!!!! (Population paste is my favourite!!)

    God Bless - Lilo

    Hi lilo,

    I know exactly how you're feeling - been TTC for about the same length of time (DS is now 6).

    I hit "the dreaded 40" this year,and like you, have to be realistic about our chances.
    In our case OH has a low sperm count and have been referred for ICSI,our first appointment is in Oct.
    With the help of my wonderful mum we've managed to scrape enough cash together for one attempt of ICSI but,sadly, if we are unsuccessful we'll just have to accept that it just wasn't to be.

    Good luck X

    Hello all - have been reading this thread for several weeks now, but not posted before.

    DH & I are both 38. I had a mirena inserted after my last child and had it removed early last Oct - we have been ttc since then. I have (and have had for years, way before mirena) irregular periods - ranging from 30 days to 17 weeks! My hormone levels were tested and apparently found to be ok - and less than a year after that I conceived my youngest, who is now 2years, 8 months - so I guess they weren't too bad then. Periods are heavy - but I have spotting for about 4 days, nothing for 2-3, then heavy (cramps, clots) for about 5 days, nothing for 24-48 hours and then a 'normal' heaviness period for about 3 days - bleurgh!!

    I have bought ov tests from ebay but have been relying on ewcm until last month (when I got them) - but I'm not sure I'm ov'ing every month, hence why I bought the tests - and I had ewcm last month but no positive ov test result ... Have had spotting & cramps a few days ago, so now waiting for the full flow to arrive :-(

    It's beginning to get to me a bit now - time is kind of running out age wise! I'm also overweight (bmi 34) so need to go back to a slimming club ( 2 out of 3 of mine were conceived whilst I was following a diet) but have been comfort eating and am not in the right head space to follow a diet atm.

    Anyway, enough of me. Congrats to those with BFPs - huge (((hugs))) to Gracie and fingers crossed for anyone who needs it :-)

    Hi skintchick. If you don't want to start taking your temperature, the only way left to see when you are ovulating is your own body. Some people feel the "pinch" as the egg is released, some people feel a scraping pain on one side due to tiny bleeding caused by ovulation, and lots of people spot EWCM. This is egg white cervical mucas, and it's when your discharge down below becomes really stretchy - like an egg white. Some also feel PMTish around the time of ovulation.

    Many people get no symptoms of ovulating at all, so without tracking temperature/using sticks you may end up no wiser I'm afraid.

    The reason they measure ovulation from the following period is that the part of your cycle prior to ovulation can vary, but the part of your cycle from ovulation to period should be the same every month. That part is called your luteul phase, and it can be different from person to person. It's normally around 14 days, but your LP should be the same every cycle.

    If you were on the pill before then I would say that your irregular periods would suggest that they haven't settled down yet. If you weren't, then I would be tempted to pop into the docs to see if they have anything to suggest.
    That ended up being a really long post!

    Good luck with it.

    Thanks!

    I've always been very irrgeular. I spent ten years on the injection so I had no periods at all, but I came off that a couple of years ago. But they have always been irregular and spaced far apart.

    I guess the best we can do is have sex every other day all the time then! I really don't want to draw charts and stuff.

    Oh Gracie hun I am so very sorry to read this.

    Please don't suffer in silence at home. I know there isn't alot the hospital can do if the worst is happening but they can make sure its happening as it should.
    (that sounds awful but you know what I mean)

    Feel free to PM me if you need further advice (I'll help if I can) or just a rant

    Lots of newbies this month, so I thought I'd bring back the abbreviations list...

    2ww = 2 week wait (between ov and af)
    AF = Aunt Flo (Period)
    BBT = Basal Body Temperature
    BD = "baby dancing"
    BFN = Big Fat Negative
    BFP = Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
    CD = cycle day (1st day of AF is the start of a new cycle and is CD1)
    CM = Cervical Mucus
    CP = Cervical Position (high means ovulation is imminent)
    DPO = days past ovulation
    EWCM = Egg White Cervical Mucus (The consistency that will stetch between your fingers - ew!)
    FSH = follicle stimulating hormone (starts building up during AF to cause follicles to grow on the ovaries and develop eggs)
    HPT = home pregnancy test
    LH = luteinising hormone (causes the ripest egg to burst out of the follicle - it is a surge in this hormone that ovulation predictors look for, as LH peaks about 12-18hrs before ov)
    LP = luteal phase
    m/c = miscarriage = loss of a baby in the 1st or 2nd trimester of pg
    OPK = ovulation predictor kit
    ov = ovulation - the moment the egg (ovum) is released
    pg = pregnant
    POAS = pee on a stick
    PP = population paste (you can figure that out...)
    tcoyf = "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility", a book by Toni Weschler that's generally considered to be the "TTC Bible". In it, she describes how to track your fertility by temp'ing, checking for EWCM and Cervical Position. See http://www.ovusoft.com/
    TTC = Trying to conceive
    Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

    That's quite reassuring to hear, as I've (so far) had no recognisable symptoms of my body doing anything much at all... Am now on CD19 and it's my first month off the pill so am just waiting really for my body to decide what it's up to when left to it's own devices...

    So am taking the advice of just BD'ing as regularly as possible - OH had a stinking hangover on Saturday morning but I still had my wicked way with him before getting him a cup of tea :D

    Has anyone else given up alcohol completely while ttc? I have done so far, but am finding it very difficult, more from other people's reactions to me not wanting a drink, and trying to find excuses for it without telling all and sundry our personal business (not that I appear to have that problem with total strangers on here :rolleyes: )

    Hugs & babydust to all...

    Some also feel PMTish around the time of ovulation.

    Ooh, maybe why I have been a complete cowbag to DH this weekend, crazy sudden mood swings for no reason really.....

    I am hoping that I will be ovulating soon or have done or am, I am not sure really? Have been trying to take BBT but intially didn't leave the thermometer in my mouth long enough (didn't realise it made a beep noise when it had taken the temp properly so had values that were too low) and now it is tricky as not sure which CD I am on (by my guesstimate I am CD17 or 18, but could be wrong (had weirdest AF type thing last time and was megalong, possibly 2 weeks and don't really know what my CD1 would be as reference). Anyway my temp is now still between 97 and 97.5 F (range TCOYF states as pre-ov normal) so no change yet. Think my cycle is about 28 days so hope I am wrong about which CD I am on....

    Also been experiencing what is like very mild period pain for the last week and a half but no spotting or anything like that. Been checking my cervix (very interesting!) and think it is a bit open and varies in feel going between quite firm to softer to firmer but has been a bit open for about 5 days since I have ventured there to check (can put my finger in the wee hole a bit). Have not had EWCM (yet? don't know if I even get it-I know some women don't) and at moment and for the last 5 days the CM has been creamy and sometimes a bit wet-ish but not very stretchy.

    So now I am stressing that I now do not ovulate (have no evidence of this but this is what I am now thinking, irrational, me?) after being on microgynon for 9 years until I came off it in Jan this year. Does your cervic open anyway even if you haven't ov'd?

    Sorry for long post (and if was TMI :D ), but prob worrying about nothing (checked PCOS symptoms and I don't have any of them & had a scan which came up fine-not for ttc purposes but another reason unrelated I think) but always good to hear from you guys who have probably had all this before.

    Cheers :o
