Congrats Throwa!
I took the plunge this morning and bought some tests off Ebay... at least I'll know if I'm PG or if I'm still waiting for the witch
Well if you can't wait for them to arrive you can always go find yourself a mouse or a frog. :eek:Selmar Aschheim and Bernhard Zondek introduced testing based on the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in 1928. In the Aschheim and Zondek test, an infantile female mouse was injected with urine of the person to be tested, and the mouse later was killed and dissected. Presence of ovulation indicated that the urine contained hCG and meant that the person was pregnant.
An improvement arrived with the frog test, which still was used in the 1950s and allowed the frog to remain alive and be used repeatedly: a female frog was injected with serum or urine of the patient; if the frog produced eggs within the next 24 hours, the test was positive.0 -

Would that be where frogmen come from?!0 -

As op has said I wouldn't suggest relying on a method but if you are looking to have fun and try and work it out fair enough just don't set yourself up for disappointment.0 -
good lord Gracie, that's some information I never wanted to know....
:rotfl:Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
Not setting myself up at all. I would like a boy next, but honestly wouldn't mind which I had.
Just interested in the old wives tales of it all, and if it works.

I don't agree with the author though when she says self testing methods are subjective and not as accurate. If you get to know your own temps & cycle effectively I have heard anecdotes of success.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -

As women are chromosomally XX and men XY, eggs are X and and sperm can be either X or Y. So it is the sperm which determines the gender as an X egg and a Y sperm = XY boy, while an X egg and and X sperm = xx girl.
X sperms contain more genetic information than Y's so they are stronger, live longer but are slower. So if you have sex 4-5 days before ovulation only the X sperms will be around for conception making you more likely to have a girl. Whereas if you have sex closer to ovulation the odd of having a boy are stronger as the Y's move faster.
If you really want to get scientific about it you can put the sperm in a centrifuge and the Y sperms will rise to the top as they are lighter. And there is also a belief that the acidic/alkaline make up of the vagina is a contributing factor as an acidic environment kills Y while a basic one kills X. So the old wives tale goes that if you want a boy you douche with baking soda prior to sex and vinegar if you want a girl.0 -

Hmm..think that I'm glad that pregnancy tests are a bit more discreet these days...
