  • Hello everyone
Having read all the advise etc. I have decided to post in here for the first time. As no-one knows me here then I am able to tell you lot that me and oh are trying again for another baby. I don't want to tell family as I have already suffered two miscarriages both at 15 & 16 weeks and dont want them to know we are going through it all again.
Anyway just wanted to say hi and fingers crossed for everyone trying and i hope you all get some good news.
Hi FF- feel welcome to spout/rant/cry whenever you want to on this thread, and its great that you ans your oh are working together. Is there any medical reason for the miscarriages? (((hugs))))

  • Hi skint it will be nice to have a place to come and just sound off etc.

They haven't given any reasons they just said that on both occasions that they baby stopped growing at around 15-16 weeks despite the normal 12 week scan showing everything was progressing fine. They wont do any tests etc until I have had my third m/c. They did take blood etc. after both m/c and the first one they suspected i may have lupus and after several more blood tests over several months that was thankfully ruled out.

The last m/c happened in June last year (talk about timing as we found out the day before my son's 5th birthday party and his first with all his school firends) and the blood test done showed a lack of iron and also a slightly low white cell count but a course of iron tablets and everything went back to normal.
So there doesnt appear to be a particular reason although as one of the nurses told me that these things happen for a reason and I would be surprised how many pregnancies end in m/c surprising that didnt really comfort me or oh much at the time (we were told this just hours after "delivering" the baby).

We started trying around xmas time and hopefully it will happen for us again and this time I hope we get to the end of the pregnancy although I doubt I would be able to enjoy it as I would always be worried it will end in m/c.

Oh dear...what an evening its been. Watched Emmerdale, sobbed from the second Laurel found the baby dead. Then was on a games site and everyone was chatting about it, then we were chatting about losses we had suffered...set me off again. I feel drained :o

    Hi FF.

Iv'e also had 2 mc's but very early, both at 6 weeks (ish). I think its ridiculous that they won't do anything till we lose 3. I'm like....cool....only got to go through it once more to get anything done
Mind you, soon as we get a positive again I'll be watched more closely as I have hardly any cervix so premature delivery (from 26 weeks on) is a very big probability.

  • Hi Shelly
I avoided Emmerdale once I had read what was going to happen as I knew it would be upsetting (I couldnt watch Hollyoaks when Mandy's baby died of cot death a few years ago depsite being a huge fan i couldnt watch again until they had ended that storyline :()

When they told me in hospital that they wont test until after 3 i thought great just got to put myself through this another time before you will investigate why at around the same time both babies stopped growing..its madness. The nurse then went on to say that they might not find anything anyway and it might just be nature's way had to stop myself from saying "well nature sucks then" as I didnt think that would be a mature way for a woman of my age ;)! I think the nurse was trying to make things sound a bit better by telling me that it might not happen again although it didn't!

Anyway have got some useful bits of info off here and going to put oh on some multivits from tomorrow. I have been taking pregnacare..do you think i need to take anything else ? it gets a bit confusing after a while whats best and whats to be avoided.

I really don't know, sorry. My hubby is also on mutivits, just tescos own brand, nothing fancy. I was on Pregnacare as my fertility doctor advised it but it didn't agree with me, made my headaches worse so now i'm just on folic acid everyday.

If you would like them I have 3 unopened foils of pregnacare and a part used foil. Foil is only popped on the tablets I took.....if that makes sense :D So in total I have 3 foils of 15 tablets and a part foil of 12 tablets. You are welcome to have them if you PM me your address. They are sitting here doing nothing and are in date until Oct 09.

  • Hi Shelly and FF- you are both very brave and my fingers are firmly crossed that everythings about to turn for you, I really hope you can stay positive (as we all must- eaiser said than done I know!).
I wish my oh would wake up to the realisation that he has dodgy man juice (!) - he's always talking anout "when we have kids" "its natural etc" and I feel like throttling him cos he just doesnt sem to get it that for some people its just NOT!

  • Just wanted to post to say hi :hello:

been following the thread with great interest as me and OH are hoping to start trying soon.

Just have a quick question...i have started taking Folic Acid (about 3 weeks so far) but do we have to wait until i've been taking it for three months to start trying?

May be a silly question but can't really speak to our families as don't want them to know we're trying (we get enough 'when are you going to have kids' at the moment without adding fuel to the fire!)

Taking folic acid for at least a year beforehand has recently been shown to cut the risk of prematurity:

From a neural tube defects point of view, it seems that there's not much information about how long to take it beforehand: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=913
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.
