  • Many many congrats to angchris and all the other BFPers!

I'm on tenterhooks today waiting for the lab to call & let me know if the frosties (on another site I use they are called 'snow babies' - I kinda like that!) have defrosted OK and for a clinic appt time tomorrow for the transfer. I can't concentrate on anything in work, feel kindof sick and jump a mile each time the phone rings. I want it to ring, but if it's bad news I don't know what I'll do.....AAARRGGGHHHH

I'm sure I wasn't this bad when I had the whole ICSI process last time, but maybe I was so caught up with injections & tablets etc, and DH thinks I was still a bit out of it from the anaesthetic for several days after EC.

There was an interesting article on the Today programme this morning about some research which had shown that there was no statistical advantage in taking clomid or having IUI over natural intercourse with couples having problems conceiving. Both the researcher (a Professor in fertility in Edinburgh I think) and the expert commentator (Robert Winston) agreed on this. RW said that in fact clomid though it prompts ovulation, impedes conception and was first used as a contraceptive not a fertility aid.

I thought it was interesting as clomid didn't help us, but child no 1 was conceived by IUI after many years of trying, when our first IVF attempt didn't yield enough eggs to harvest.

Thought this might be interesting to some of you who are considering options at the moment.

I think that article was only relating to unexplained fertility and that in those with PCOS or lack of ovulation, it was indeed helpful?

The programme itself didn't make that clear, but I've googled it and you are right. This is the link to the paper for those who want to know more:

That being said I had PCOS and wasn't ovulating and sadly for me clomid had no effect. Took mega dose IVF drugs even to generate the one egg which became my DS!
  • It is on Sky News website today as well.......

anyways that made my day knowing something is getting done. soooooo excited. cant wait till im pg.

That's good news, Vic. It takes a weight off your mind just to know that something's being done, doesn't it?

The doctor gave me the impression that round here I can expect to wait about 6 months before getting an appointment for the initial tests and that the whole round of them will probably take about 18 months, but I imagine there are no guarantees and that it will vary from place to place.

OH is most dissappointed that I've come on. It seems that with him being told his sperm is fine, and us relaxing because we're on holiday, he was sure that this would be the month. Back to the beginning again then...

Where I live they don't do early scans until you show signs of something going wrong.

When I got pg the second time following a previous mc they wasn't going to scan me or anything until the normal 3 months. Unfortunately I started spotting at 6 weeks (same as first) so got a scan immediately.

Maybe its different where you are though. It can't hurt to ask.

Congrats again and best wishes for the coming months.
