Thanks to jiblets for this list....
2ww = 2 week wait (between ov and af)
AF = Aunt Flo (Period)
BBT = Basal Body Temperature
BD = "baby dancing" (having sex)
BFN = Big Fat Negative
BFP = Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)

CM = Cervical Mucus
CP = Cervical Position (high means ovulation is imminent)

EWCM = Egg White Cervical Mucus (The consistency that will stetch between your fingers - ew!)
FSH = follicle stimulating hormone (starts building up during AF to cause follicles to grow on the ovaries and develop eggs)
HPT = home pregnancy test
LH = luteinising hormone (causes the ripest egg to burst out of the follicle - it is a surge in this hormone that ovulation predictors look for, as LH peaks about 12-18hrs before ov)

m/c = miscarriage = loss of a baby in the 1st or 2nd trimester of pg
OPK = ovulation predictor kit
ov = ovulation - the moment the egg (ovum) is released

Supergirl - don't worry - I am 38 (just - in June) - and still trying!
I remarried a couple of years ago - we've been trying about 4 years now, but we have been diagnosed with 'Fertility issues' so are having IVF (sadly not NHS funded as we fall foul of the ridiculous 'postcode lottery' - but that's another whole long story!). 1st IVF worked, but PG was ectopic, so I lost the little beanies (2 of them) in December. Waiting for FET at the moment, but not OVing now, so got to get that sorted out first........*deep sigh*....... never rains but it pours!
I advise starting to try ASAP and going to your GP if it doesn't happen in about 6 months, as it seems to take a long time to get the ball rolling with them. Age should not be a prob tho' - my clinic will treat women up to mid forties!
Good luck!

Getting Married October 3rd 2009!!

Hey all,
I came across this thread the other day and have read it all the way through in the last few days. I think I might want to start TTC, but I'm nervous and DH is too freaked out.
I'm now 30 and he is 33 and we've been together 13 years (married nearly 4). We always said we would do everything the traditional way and we're now married and have a house (which we're getting to the end of refurbishing). We have both just got promoted at work, (with the pay rises to match) and have some debts to clear (car loans etc) - not much. I haven't yet finished my PhD which I was adamant had to be finished before the patter of tiny feet.
It's just I always thought I wanted kids before I was 30 and now I am and DH still won't properly talk about it. I'm not really broody yet, but if we want two I'm starting to worry time could start ticking away from us. DH's parents were married for 10 years and planning to adopt before he came along.
I came off the pill in February but we're not trying and I just generally feel confused about what I want and if/when DH will ever want it. All men are just kids at heart aren't they?
The only thing that keeps me positive is that we were together for 9 years and knew we'd get married, but he always made out like it was a long way off until the day he proposed. He deffo does want kids just not yet he says... Maybe one day he will just wake up and decide to BD??!!!
Thanks for listening...
Hi Kerry, a slightly belated welcome to the thread.
I don't know what to say with regards to whether the time is right for you and your husband to ttc. Only you'll know when is right. It sounds like you are nearly there, but not quite, and that with your husband it's difficult to tell. I think you're doing the right thing in coming off the pill but not trying yet. It focuses your mind a bit more and it means that when you are ready to try, your body will be ready too. Make sure you do have an open talk with him about your feelings about it.
Good luck with it all.Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o0 -
Hi are there any older women trying for a baby?
I'll be 38 next year so time is running out I feel.
Hi,I turned 40 this year and starting to give up hope - OH has got a low sperm count and I was diagnosed with a fibroid last year !!!
we have managed to get a appointment at an nhs fertility clinic,which is next week.although I know we won't get any funding for IVF treatment, I'm hoping that they'll be able to advise us of our options and chances of outcome.
Best of luck and have fun trying !0 -
Hello! Not checked in for a while so just wanted to say hello!
I'm on CD 12 out of 35, and have started to do an OV test today to try and figure out when I'm ovulating. I noticed last month from my CM that I could have been ovulating early for my cycle length (day 14 ish). Anyway I had a faint line on todays OV test, I'm going to try again tomorrow and see what happens.
As I was sat on the bus on the way to work today I did realise how I have let this really take over my life and I've become a bit obsessed. It's only been 3 cycles (this is our 4th) and I swore to myself when we started TTC that we would just let it happen and take our time! But baby fever has hit!
Kerrygold - I don't think any of us are ever sure we are ready, but with men as usual they stick their head in the sand! Although my BF is sure he wants kids now, he really couldn't care about the logistics. He just assumed it would 'happen' and really didn't know it could take so long to concieve. It was only when some friends of ours got pregnant we found out they had been trying for a year. This really shocked my BF into realising sooner the better. (Although I had only just made my mind up the time was here!) The only thing you can do is talk to him.
Sceneyme - have you tried freecycle for some excercise dvd's or equipment? I got a lovely stepper machine off there last year and just use it when I'm watching my soaps and it really helps! (I HATE excercise!)
Babydust to everyone new and regular posters! I must go to bed as I think there will be a long week of BD this week!Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

Hiya peeps. Hope everyone is ok and not too depressed by this horrible grey weather. I keep expecting it to get better but no such luck.
I'm on CD6 now and it seems to be going slowly this cycle! I have ov sticks to try and find out when I'm oving this month as I think I might not have done last month. No change in cm all month and long cycle.
Is it normal to not ov when you first come off the pill? I am on my second proper cycle after the pill now.0
