I shared the worry of being "bad parents" when my (now) wife was pregnant with our first. We used to lay in bed heading the woman next door screaming "go to sleep" at her kids and I remember thinking "what if we end up like that?".
But now we've got three, and we don't shout and scream at them to go to sleep every night. And we've moved, so can no longer hear the neighbours!
I think everyone has worries, and I'm sure you'll be fine.
The reason I'm posting, though, is about a support network. Someone earlier said something about "you'll meet loads of new people" which is a fair point, but not necessarily a given point.
Parents are a natural source of support. If they're not there then I really do suggest you make sure you have friends who can support you. I'm not saying that you need to go round booking people up for babysitting right now. But maybe having a chat with a couple of your closest friends and telling them your concerns.
Also it is a great help to get to know people in a similar situation to you. The NHS should run local (free) parentcraft classes. These will no doubt be offered to you by your midwife but if you're getting towards the end of your pregnancy and they haven't been mentioned make sure you get on them. There's plenty of good advice (especially for first time parents) about the birth and afterwards, but it can also be a good place to swap numbers with some other mums-to-be. Or at least get to know a few people who you will then no doubt bump into at baby weighing clinics, etc.
Another good place to contact is the National Childbirth Trust (www.nct.org.uk). They do "Bumps and Babes" sessions where people due in the same month can meet up before and after the babies are born.
Incidentally, the NCT also do "nearly new sales", where you can pick up good quality second hand clothes and equipment for good prices.
Most importantly, enjoy it.
[Edit: Should probably point out that my wife and I are members of the NCT, but I do honestly believe the advice above is good - I didn't just write it to benefit the charity!]0 -
I'm driving myself crackers this month. I got the impression (just from CM) that I stopped ovulating a few months ago (haven't been OV testing though). This month I wasn't sure whether I did or not, but for the last week or so my boobs have been really sore and tender, I've been insatiably hungry, and been falling asleep on sofa at night. AF isn't actually due until Monday though. I did cave in and do a first response test this morning but it was BFN. I am still torturing myself though with the suspense. We've been trying for 14 months now, and it took 6 years (and fertility drugs) to fall with number 1.
Hiya, I know it feels like forever until Monday, but hang on in there! You get the most accurate reading on the day that your period is due. Good luck, and try to resist til Monday!

Right, I just need o get this out more than anything as I know how good you guys are on here... sorry if TMI.
I have been feeling really bloated, crampy - the sort you'd expect before AF but not feeling pre-menstrual in terms of my attitude, etc. Anyway, the cramping type feeling seems to have gone but now my nipples feel very strange. I only noticed it yesterday when my seatbelt rubbed over and I noticed they felt a bit tender. It's not my whole breast, just if you touch or gently squeeze the nipple. My breasts haven't gone larger or anything, and when I have usually been approaching AF I tend to get quite sore all over, if you understand what I mean.
Anyone else had this? I might just be imagining things and will have to just see how thing develop anyway, but just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced anything like it.
I have a test in the cupboard from a few months back when I was on the pill, but didn't get AF, so there's a test there when I need it but think it's a bit too soon to do that.0 -

I never ever used to get sore nipples, but these past 6 months or sore I've got them every time I'm due on. It's exactly how you described it. I got my hopes up when it first happened as well, but now it just gets me down. I do hope it is a good sign for you though, fingers crossed.
and btw, while I'm here... what the hell does FWIW and AF stand for? :rotfl:Pigsback - 500 points, Happyfly - £37.92, Juicy Brains - £1.25, Valued Opinions - Zilch, Casback Rewards - £2.78

For abbreviations see beow:
Took this from jiblets post number 229, - Thanks jiblets.
Just thought I'd bring this forwards to help any newcomers.... Don't forget to copy and paste if you have any other useful abbreviations to add.
2ww = 2 week wait (between ov and af)
AF = Aunt Flo (Period)
BBT = Basal Body Temperature
BD = "baby dancing"
BFN = Big Fat Negative
BFP = Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
CD = cycle day (1st day of AF is the start of a new cycle and is CD1)
CM = Cervical Mucus
CP = Cervical Position (high means ovulation is imminent)
DPO = days past ovulation
EWCM = Egg White Cervical Mucus (The consistency that will stetch between your fingers - ew!)
FSH = follicle stimulating hormone (starts building up during AF to cause follicles to grow on the ovaries and develop eggs)
HPT = home pregnancy test
LH = luteinising hormone (causes the ripest egg to burst out of the follicle - it is a surge in this hormone that ovulation predictors look for, as LH peaks about 12-18hrs before ov)
LP = luteal phase
m/c = miscarriage = loss of a baby in the 1st or 2nd trimester of pg
OPK = ovulation predictor kit
ov = ovulation - the moment the egg (ovum) is released
pg = pregnant
POAS = pee on a stick
tcoyf = "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility", a book by Toni Weschler that's generally considered to be the "TTC Bible". In it, she describes how to track your fertility by temp'ing, checking for EWCM and Cervical Position. See http://www.ovusoft.com/

One thing my midwife told me just before our DS arrived was "you can't do anything wrong according to your baby, because they know no different". So what if you put the nappy on incorrectly a few times, your baby isn't going to tell anyone.
That made me feel so much better. When it came down to it, it is true.0 -
