This did make me smile Calephetos, because I think socks are hard! You are doing well.0 -
I started knitting at 4 and made myself a dress at 13 and of course made all my childrens clothes. Slowly slowly, it became cheaper to buy ready-mades and the knitting shop on every main street was no more. 20 years went by without me knitting and now it is so fantastic to see the way knitting has taken off again
If you are into knitting very special designer garments then look at interweave (magazine) and look at the tension and then substitute for cheaper yarn
I`m going to start my first ever socks just as soon as my dpns arrive. Apparantly they`re hard to get going but easier after a few rows. Guess what everyone is getting for christmas? we had a family challenge last year ie no present more than £10. It was fantastic and the best present was the entirely hand-made one, which included chilli jam
There is talk on the angel site of people making facecloths and wrapping a lush item in it. A good idea. I may do socks and chocolates for my lot but it depends how I get on with socks
next step will be felting. eg a wool bag felted in the washing machine etc but I have to learn more first
and I`m going to the cardiff hobbycraft show on 2-4 nov. I`ll be the one with the giant shopping trolley0 -
Wow, so many new messages today. I had no idea that us OS'ers were such a crafty lot. I'll email the mods today to see how we could go about having a sub-forum. Or maybe just a dedicated thread akin to the Daily Thread, or the Flylady thread would work. I'll get back to you with their answer.
I was brave and took my knitting to the local pub last night. After a hard day with the babies, my lovely OH offered to cook dinner while I took half an hour out for myself. So I took my sweater project and spent a nice half an hour knitting with a glass of wine. Quite a few people stopped to chat and asked what I was doing - ended up having a good conversation about knitting vs the price of supermarket clothes.0 -
Just to update you, I posted a message on the Questions and Site Feedback forum (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=50) on the advice of the board guides.
Will see what sort of a response we get from this, to see if people think a knitting/crafting sub-forum would be helpful.0 -

No problem!
In my previous post I mentioned MCA Direct - just wanted to let you know that they are very very good. I order some yarn late on Sunday evening and received it yesterday...have to say I was very impressed!
Thanks Littlebean for posting the request for a sub-forum.

Thanks Andrea - I missed out on this last year as it was too late when I found out about it...however, I've now made a start and got my mum and sister on the case too, so hopefully we'll have loads of them. Good way of using up the stash...

I've used McA several times and they are brilliant. I also bought some wool from Dragonyarns.co.uk and they were really good too, fast delivery and a bit cheaper than the retail price. I love knitting.0

Thanks Andrea - I missed this one. I have a friend who is keen to start knitting so I might suggest this as a good starter project.0
