ooh, mags50 they are fab. I really like them and feel a splurge coming on.Did you just google beret pattern? Thank you so much for taking the time. I love the fact that you get the pattern straightaway.
I ordered some yarn from Laughing hens after someone posted earlier (I think peem, thank you). Oh what fun i will have. Just off now to felt a pencil case I have made using up some old wool. Wish me luck.
  • Pleased you liked the patterns :D

All I did was google 'aran knit beret pattern' as it looked like the hat might have been knitted in Aran type wool. There's loads if you have time to search :D

Think I will have to get my needles out again... knitting was always my favourite type of craft work... so theraputic!

Might try and do a little beret for my one and only grandaughter...don't think the 6 grandsons (one only born last week) and the other grandson due before Christmas will appreciate them!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

At the moment, I am unpicking - for the 5th time - a sock heel which I just CANNOT get right, from an old 1958 pattern. Found the Impulse site- thankyou Ishtar- but in usual dim way took an age to find the ad. and yes, it is a lovely Aran beret.
    Shall hunt about a bit.

    NEEDED! 1 BALL WENDY 4-PLY SOCK WOOL,SHADE 559.

This is a mid-navy with a lesser brown strand running through - is there a matching service for long-ago acquired wool, similar to those for china?

  • Whenever I have run out of wool to finish something, Sirdar etc always recommend Bobby Davisons in the Sunderland area - you could Google them - and they have always come up with the goods, down to the dye lot.

    Hahaha!

I cast on this just last night because I am sick of my tea going cold!

I have changed the colours (using a dark green, pink and lilac simply because I had them in my stash), and of course not using the recommended wool......... but I did check that it would felt well and should work OK!

I'm going to try this as well! In white, and blue ( my kitchen is blue, and the teapot and crockery is Willow pattern). At the moment my tea-cosy looks like a giant square chicken. I made it a few years ago from some bargain yellow corderoy (sp?) fabric, red felt for wings, thingy on the head and beak. Looks really funky, but doesn't really fit with the colour-scheme...
  • Anyone do crochet?

Ive been a knitter on and off for many years, but recently found it gives my shoulder a bit of gyp, so I tried crochet. I could crochet already, but only make squares, so my first project was a dishcloth. Then I got a pattern for a shopping bag and made that. Flushed with success I bought a pattern from ebay for a crochet jacket/cardi and bought some Sirdar wool fairly cheap on ebay (Denim aran weight). Well, I cant believe how well Ive got on with it and I now love crochet better than knitting.

I have bought wool recently from McA and Kemps and found them really good and really cheap for quality stuff like Sirdar which Ive always liked. I am joining a local knitting group soon, and their is a sub group on our local forum for knitters too. They dont discriminate against crochet!
  • Just remembered something I can ask you experienced knitters.

Has anyone used Sirdar Pullman? I have a vintage pattern for a jacket in this and it looks like chunky. It isnt made any more, Ive googled it and found an old ebay in Australia that had some. But its not really feasible to get enough and I wondered if anyone can tell me, is chunky an equivalent?

Ive written to Sirdar and had no reply yet.
