Ooh, does that mean I'm now on a list somewhere Coxy? That's good!

I've not really got the hang of this yet, what with the signatures and everything. So you're supposed to sign off with your target and actual spend of the month so far?

Post 3 of this thread

I'm new to this too so not 100% sure but if you go to your User CP you can edit your sig that way.

I guess they want us to continually update sigs.

Yes, you are on the list. Check out post 3 on the first screen (same every month). It is worth having a look at the tips, systems and recipes that the first few pages link to, when you have time. They are worth a bit of a browse when/if you have a bit of time.

As to how you manage it, that is up to you. Lots just post, others read avidly (it is addictive, especially when you start). I record my monthly progress in the sig but keep a s/sheet to track for myself.

A quick tip is that when you are logged in you can thank as you go - if only so you know where you have read up to. There used to be lots of people doing this but in the last three years it is apparent that far fewer people read, they just use the thread to track themselves

    Best of luck

  • Thanks. Have been using YNAB for the last year, so know where my money goes, just can't seem to stop budgeting more money than I have - far, far too much goes on groceries, on my income (11k) I should be shopping at Aldi rather than Waitrose! There's only myself and one child (with me half the time), so £250 per month should be plenty, yes? Hence me signing up here.

So far this month, of my £250 budget for groceries I have spent £108.08. Not great but could be worse!

£3 today - had to break the NSDs at some point haha.
  • I'd love to join in with this if i can.. I'll have to have a read and catch up on everything as i'm new and clueless and don't have the slightest idea what i spend on food at the moment .

Basically, i start maternity leave next week and our first baby comes soon. So going to be hoping to save some money on shopping and anywhere possible. Plus next week (why i'm starting maternity early), husband goes in for an op to remove a hernia and won't be eating solid foods for a while, so the shopping and budgets will be changing and it seems a perfect time to start looking at something like this.

Going to go have a look through all the recipes at the beginning of the thread and see what quick and cheap meals i can pick up from there as looking after him and soon the baby too, i won't have the time to make anything fancy. I think the slow cooker will finally get some use. I have every kitchen gadget going, so there has to be a few in there i can use.

Ok, something is seriously wrong with the food budget in that with 19 days still to go (i do my shopping on the 27th of each month), my partner and I have so far spent £152.79, with an aim of £165/185 for the month.

Our cupboards are full, there is no excuse.

Ok, so maybe £185 a month for two adults is a big tight, but I like setting challenges.

Will continue to post and read and thank people, and am determined to not go over £185 this month!

  • So you recon you can last the rest of the month on just 30 odd quid? I am v impressed, I am struggling with my budget and I was starting to feel like giving up!

I notice lots of people talking about NDSs and I was wondering about trying this. I always keep thinking - oh well what's the point of not buying something I need, today when it just means that I'll buy it tomorrow anyway. However, having thought that today and popping out to 'just' buy bin liners and milk I am now down £33. So I suppose it stops the unintentional impulse spending?
