I can't answer for Fay but I seriously doubt she works for ebay.
All I can say again is why must we always assume that buyers are dim, does no one give them credit for having any intelligence at all. If these scams are so obvious then how would anyone fall for them?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yep, agreed Soolin. These scams are NOT that obvious to everyone, in fact, people are falling for them every day. Thats the reason im trying to highlight it.
Many many people are being "had" often poor, often intelligent, just plain reeled in. Just wish ebay would answer my emails and at least SEEM interested. Goodness knows how the people feel who have been "had" when they send ebay an email and get no response.
pps. Scammers dont put in their listing that they are scammers, if it was that easy, there wouldnt be any scammers.0 -
i got scammed once( empty envalope trick) but because they had proof of postage which i had signed for paypal found in their favour.
looking back it probably serves me right when all i was saving is £10( £100 worth for £90), so if there wasn't a queue of people waiting to fall for the scam in order to save a megre amount then there wouldn't be anyone to scam them.0 -
Hey all Richie just to let you know that NO Ebay never got back to me. I just got the standard mail from them. Also the seller that has received the negative feedback I messaged the buyer telling them not to pay as it was a scam. They never replied to me, but I'm hoping that they didn't pay and just left negative feedback.0

I wonder if it would be possible to bring a case against Ebay in some of these cases, for example if someone from here reported an item as a scam and someone else from here bought it with Ebay doing nothing at all about it, could they be regarded as at fault in any way?0

I had 4 negs from people who simply didn't turn up, and left negs when I reclaimed my fees, then ebay told me I was a bad seller and kicked me off, then they kicked my wife off, when I emailed them for an explanation they said that I should pay square trade to have the negs removed, and that although they would read further emails from me, they would not respond.
So I got messed about because ebay make no effort to verify buyers ids, and then kicked off despite doing nothing wrong.
And ebay still owe me some money, but they won't answer my emails...0 -

So those who fall victims to ebay scams are just fools who deserve to lose their money?0 -
So Blaise got no reply, Stan got no reply, im still awaiting a reply but as i said, im not holding my breathe.
As Stan points out, ebay do nothing to verify the new buyers/sellers so these scams can go on and on and on and all ebay get is paid. Its terrible. I really dont know how they get away with it, but i know why they want to.
Perhaps if you could buy ebay insurance, then if you got scammed, you could claim it back from them but as we all know, this wouldnt happen because of the number of daily scams, they would probably go skint within weeks.
Im in a never ending circle of listing scams, reporting em to ebay, awaiting the never arriving reply, watching people getting scammed and then waiting for the next scam to go up and reporting em again.
I suppose no one is interested cos scams have gone on since the year dot but if theres anyone out there who wants to employ a full time scam investigator, im your man, only problem is i couldnt guarantee the safety of the scammers cos these people really make me sick.
Rant rant rant, thats all i do all day, im beginning to bore people now, i know and for that, i apologise, for having a go at ebay, banging on about it to ebay everyday and attacking the scammers, i dont.
As our American friends say "Have a nice day." !

Hey Richie,
I know exactly how frustrating this can be when eBay refuse to do anything about obvious scams.
A while back I found a CD claimed to be signed by my favourite band. Knowing what the bands signatures are like I could see this was a fake so began looking at the guys other items. They were all dodgy looking autographed CD's, all claiming to have a certificate of authenticity (biggest load of 'cowpoo' ever! who authenticated this item? the scammer and a copy of Microsoft Word? I think so!)
Anyway, looking at his feedback it was clear he was buying CD's for pennies, signing them and then selling em on eBay for £20-80 a pop!
He even bought a pack of permanent marker pens! Talk about taking the 'pee' All of this was on the SAME account making it stupidly obvious what he was up to.
So I created a fake account (which was waaaaaay too easy) and bid on loads of his most popular auctions. Of course I didn't pay up but instead left neg feedback directing his potential buyers to a website I had created showing exactly what he was doing.
I also sent eBay a link to the site I set up. And what did they do?
Ban me!
Not only that but they completely REMOVED my neg feedbacks.
That really peed me off, fair enough I had a fake account, but they removed my feedback and let him continue scamming people!
So I tried a new tactic, I began sending messages to the highest bidders warning them and suggesting they retract their bid. The seller soon clicked on and made his bidders list private as well as hiding his feedback.
There was nothing else I could do, it seemed eBay were looking the other way and instead punishing ME for trying to stop people from getting scammed.
This happened a while ago now and like you I posted about it on a few forums and generally people just didn't care!
I just can't believe eBay can sit back and do nothing about this kind of thing, it really is becoming a huge problem and something needs to be done.
They need to tighten up the registration process with proper ID checks. They should also limit new users to buying only until they have reached a certain value of purchases (a certain amount of feedback is pointless as you can see by the people buying 100's of 1p items over a few days)
It's not so much the scammers that 'pee' me off, but eBay! ARGH!!0 -
http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQfrppZ25QQfrtsZ0QQsassZQ2acoreyQ5ftaylorQ2a
A guy selling signed posters which are in fact just magazine pages cut out and "signed"
His proof is, again, a "certificate of Authenticity" which means absolutely NOTHING.
He also seems to have photos of himself with various bands as proof he met them and got items signed.
But isn't it a bit strange that his face is covered in each shot, maybe because it's a different person in each shot and he stole someone elses picture to use in his scam!
Other signs of a scam are the fact all feedback and bidders are private.
Looking at the small amount of neg feedback he's received it seems he's been doing this since 2003! I wonder how much money he has made from this, and also how much money eBay have made by allowing him to continue this scam!
It's sickening, but again there's no solid evidence it's a scam so eBay will do nothing about it.
The thing is, everyone is to blame
The scammer - obviously.
eBay - for refusing to investigate certain sellers and have a flawed feedback system
The buyers - for not realising the items are fake and leaving neg feedback to warn others.0
