But honestly, you're really fretting about nothing. These kind of people see ALL sorts. I know a few people who work for property maintenance, and they see some NASTY NASTY stuff. Seeing a few bras and sanitary towels. I bet he forgot was he saw before he reached the bottom of the stairs.
I am not saying you had dirty knickers, but when you said dirty washing lying around, I pictured all sorts!
Stop worrying!
As for the man going to the loo without asking; bit cheeky but not the crime of the century. Have to admit, people do usually ask though.
Yeah, I understand. It's the idea of him wandering around my bedroom for no reason that makes me feel uneasy. Both from a mess point of view ( just having moved in, boxes and clothes everywhere, valuables lying around, bed unmade) and just...that's my space. Territorial lol!
The dirty washing was just yesterday's clothes, nightwear, towels and one bra.
But like I say, with the OCD, my house has to be immaculate before anyone sees it all.
And you are right about the worrying. That's just part and parcel of me though.0 -

There's nothing wrong with you if you fret and worry; many people do, but I am sure this man won't care about what he saw.
However, he should have asked really. Is there any way you can shut off the upstairs? And put a sign on the door/gateway to the upstairs saying 'no entry' or something?cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0 -

Well don't leave them on the floor & on the side in the bathroom.
I live alone - I'd never leave underwear on the floor.
I don't have periods now - but when I did I didn't leave then on the side in the bathroom.
I put them in a drawstring bag which hung on a hook on the back of the bathroom door - handy & tidy.0 -
Have to say I can sympathise a bit with the OP. My house has both downstairs and upstairs toilets, the downstairs one is always pointed out to visitors/workmen, with workmen being told it is the only one in the house unless they are actually going to be working in the bathroom.
The upstairs of my house is for my daughter and I. It's where anything precious, regardless of monetary value is kept. I would be very unhappy about someone just going up without asking or being invited. Even more so as I have very pale cream carpets on the stairs and upstairs floors so no shoes and only slippers that have never been worn outside are allowed.0 -
If the upstairs bathroom has no door at all, I'm surprised he wanted to go to the toilet in there. No way would I have a wee in a strangers house knowing that someone could come up the stairs at any moment and catch me with my pants around my ankles
I can't think of a reason why he'd be in your bedroom, and I understand why it might freak you out.0 -
Maybe he assumed you must have an en suite, as who would have a bathroom with no door if they did not have another loo upstairs to use.
But he realised you did not so had to use the main loo, and ran the taps loudly to hide the sound.0 -

Someone who had just moved in, lived alone and hadn't yet got a door?
I wouldn't assume someone had another toilet upstairs just because they currently had no door on it (especially as they do have one downstairs).
If he was bothered about the sound you'd think he'd also be bothered about being seen and would avoid going to that bathroom.0 -

Just to clarify myself and mum, without questions heard footsteps on the creaky floorboards in my bedroom (room directly above the lounge where we were sitting) - the front of my bedroom, not a case of peeking the head round the door. He was in the room, walking around. He didn't have any need to be wandering around in the rooms and he undoubtedly was in my bedroom - a good 8 paces from the door (the creaky floorboard that we heard clear as anything is at my dressing table, by the window).
.
In that case if you know for sure he was in your bedroom, then in my mind you should definitely say something to him. If a workman had been wandering around my bedroom when there was no need whatsoever for him to be there, then yes, I wouldn't hesitate to complain.
If he was up there for that long, then I'd wonder what he was up to.I don't expect an adult to have to ask to go to the loo -
.
It good manners and common courtesy IMO to ask first. I would expect any vistor (that wasn't friends or family) to ask first and would find it rude if they didn't.0 -

This seems the most likely explanation.
My mind is boggling that you don't have a bathroom door and don't seem at all phased by a visiting workman using it without, but are horrified that they saw a box of unused tampons!0 -
All I can say is that if I'd definitely heard a workman in my bedroom, clean or not, then unless he had good reason to be in there I would have challenged him there and then.
Tomorrow in my opinion is too late0
