What happens is I get them coming at me from all sides, (see mobile saver....just above..... have never had a conversation with them by the way!) so I 'react' a bit at times and its hard juggling 'discussions' with all and sundry.

I'm looking at retiring next summer as well but chose the AVC route instead of the additional pension option. Like you I'm looking forward to spending more time with my dogs, (three dachshunds in my case) and frequent trips to Costa Rica and Thailand.

So you've decided to evade taxation in order to spend your retirement on holiday. Screw the homeless when it comes to your finances, right comrade?

You are such a massive hypocrite. It's bathetic really.

Fair enough, I preferred additional pension over the AVC option because of the certain return, rather than relying on a variable performance, but it is horses for courses, and I have enough invested in non certain outcomes. So it helped balance my risk.

The additional pension was over 75% better than an annuity, I don't think annuities are that great, but over 75% better is bloody good.

We are choosing Spain/the Algarve because we can drive there and take our dog with us.

    Go away then.

You're evading taxes which by your own statement is immoral. You seek to demonise Mr Cameron while doing something that you think is worse when other people do it!

    Hypocrite.

Wrong......I said technically on what we know he hasn't broken the law but that's not the point because there is a moral angle too. I've also explained why this is the case. ......but of course you chose not to acknowledge what I actually said and instead choose to twist it to fit your own prejudice. Why bother mate. If you've got nothing to say which is worthwhile to me ignore me.

    What is the moral angle?

I think morality creeps into it when you sail close to the wind, complying with the letter of the law but not the spirit.

The letter of the law re offshore investments is that you can make such an investment as long as you declare it and the income and gains arising from it. If you don't declare and pay tax on the income and gains then you commit tax evasion.

So a tick in the letter of the law box it seems.

Now, what about morality. I suppose the angle here is that if someone uses an offshore vehicle in a contrived/spurious way to avoid tax that would otherwise be due, that would be immoral and perhaps beyond the ability of HMRC to prove as evasion.

Cameron bought shares in a collective investment fund where his money was pooled with that of other investors and then invested in listed equities by the fund's investment manager. The fund was based offshore and did not pay uk corporation tax on its income and gains from dealing in shares.

However, had the fund been based onshore it would have paid no tax on its income or gains anyway.

It is difficult to see how Cameron's investment could be immoral in this context. Obviously we already know that you don't understand the tax position of pretty much anything but how could not even avoiding any tax whatsoever possibly be immoral tax avoidance. How can something which Cameron fully disclosed in the course of preparing his tax returns be described as having been hidden.

Your argument appears to me to be that because you don't like Cameron any action he takes must have been taken for immoral purposes and it is not necessary for you to actually identify how or why something he did was immoral - because everything he does is immoral because you say so.

Comrade Corbyn according to his tax return did not receive a penny in interest during the last tax year. I would suspect it would be quite difficult to not earn a single penny of interest when earning at least 75k unless you for example transferred the money to your partner perhaps to take advantage of the fact that they were in a lower tax bracket.

He could have all cash savings within ISAs - you don't have to declare income earned within ISAs on your tax return. Perhaps it is all in non taxable national savings products? Maybe he likes premium bonds!

    Perhaps he just forgot?

After all, Saint Jeremy does seem to be rather a forgetful fellow. Not only did he forget to put his state pension on his tax return, it also seems he forgot to enter details of his local government pension. Today, the Telegraph is claiming that he failed to enter details of a third pension as well.

What a terrible, tax-dodging man. He's almost as bad as Moby.

Where did I say he was evil? I don't believe in the concept of evil....it's rather medieval;)
I said he was a scumbag for the reasons given above and he clearly realised how it would be viewed because of the way he behaved when challenged. He tries to pretend that he is someone he isn't. Like when he couldn't tell the difference between A Villa and West Ham.....and yet we are all supposed to be in this together? ....he is the PM .....he is supposed to rise above party politics and provide leadership for the whole country and not just the tory part! He is divisive, thin skinned and arrogant imo and every so often he is exposed just a little bit and you see a shaft of light exposing the reality. Corbyn clearly doen't have the wit to expose him and for me that is frustrating but that doesn't change what he is!

you have many and often claimed the high MORAL ground : one can't have a high moral ground without distinguishing between good and bad/evil.

in fact you lack principles and you lack moral values : all you have is tribal affiliation for the labour party.
Labour people 'good' : tories 'bad'

you ignore Anthony Wedgewood Benn and Hilary et al inheritance tax avoidance even though every similar to Cameron's mother action.
IRA loving Corbyn has refused to disclose full details of this tax affairs : even if legal the tax avoidance measures are highly suspicious and lack morality. We need Jeremy to provide full and complete details of all his tax affairs

We'll see no labour manifesto promises for tax transparency : too much hypocrisy avoidance in their ranks :too many people like you say one thing when its convenient but act differently in reality.

If they were to retrain as mechanics or locksmiths we'd snap them up.

Oh I don't know, there seems to be quite a few skilled positions that your average Junior Doctor could do. As you know, a junior doctor is the catch all term for anyone who isn't a Consultant.
