I usually get asked this when I've just put a forkful of food in my mouth!0 -
I never shy from tipping but accusations to people being cheap is ludicrous. "why should wait stuff suffer if you are hard up?" Rethink that to why should customers suffer for employers paying low wages?
How did it come to pass that some services have grown in tipping culture and not others, they may all be equally lower paid. People's ire should be directed at employers who are paying staff as little as possible. All your staff are vital to your business, a good employer who recognises everyone as an important cog in that machine who contribute to the success of their business and reward their staff accordingly. Those who don't have no regard for their employees.0 -
There are many people on here who have complained that they should not be paying the wages of the waiting staff, that's down to the employer. So lets abolish tipping and insist that the restaurant owner makes up the difference by increasing salaries. What do you think will happen? Obviously the prices would go up accordingly so you would still be paying.
At least now you have the opportunity to pay no tip if the service was poor and reward good service with a higher tip.
I maintain my position that if you are counting the pennies, add at least 10% to the cost before you decide whether to eat in a restaurant. To do anything else is selfish.0 -

I think your completely missing the point!. Yes tipping should be abolished and the employer should be responsible for all ages. But prices won't go up and wages won't go up because they will want to remain competitive.
How much do you think someone should be paid to carry plates around and write down orders?. It's not exactly highly skilled is it or difficult to find people who can do the job!.0 -
I'm sure the restaurant cleaner works harder but they prob don't get any tips.0

I wonder how many people who are morally outraged at the thought of tipping as "They are already paid to do a job" would return a bonus given by their employers with the words "You already pay me to do a job so to pay me a bonus would be wrong so please take it back"I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
