Money Moral Dilemma: How big a tip should I give when using a 2 for 1 voucher?

I regularly buy Travelzoo vouchers for a superb local restaurant and pay around half price for the food. Travelzoo suggest that the tip reflects the full cost of the meal, not the reduced cost and I have absolutely no problems with this at all.'Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.' George Carlin0

I usually make up the sum to a round pound and it varies between 5% & 10%. On rare occasions I'll go above or below this.
If I have a voucher or a 'gift' then I usually go a little higher than 10%.
However, I always give the tip in cash, never including it on a credit card transaction, that ensures that the receiver can use it as he or she feels fit.0 -
Simple only tip for great service.0

Todays MoneySaver who wants advice asks...
Please can you ask MSE Nick to come up with something that would resemble a real life issue as opposed to the nonsense currently asked at present.
Ie:- I have a choice of cornflakes or frosties for breakfast am really struggling to decide what to have here, Please help me !!!!!!!0 -
Why should anyone feel obliged to tip in restaurants? We ate at Prezzo last week (3 adults) and even with £30 off using Tesco deal it still cost £25 for 3 mains, 2 puddings (£5.99 each), 1 soft drink, half pint of lager and a small bottled cider (£3.99!) People get paid for doing their job and shouldn't expect it. I worked for 27 years and in that time got about 12 gifts for my service.0

How about toast instead? Frosties definitely if you must choose!0 -
It is so boring reading all the predictable responses that say "this isn't a real problem! who cares? find a real dilemma!" every single week on the Money Moral Dilemma.
If you don't think it's real, so what? Just let those who are interested in the problem get on with it!
And for what it's worth, I would tip 10% on the original amount (if I thought a tip was deserved). I don't think the waiter should get a lower tip just because the restaurant has agreed to give you a cheaper deal.0 -
I never tip when out with the family mainly because most of the places we go to you have to pay up front for the food.
If I am out with friends we normally go somewhere where you pay the bill at the end, so we normally split the bill between us and then add on an extra 50p each. Doesn't seem a lot but when out in a group of 15-20 people its a nice little earner.
I never tip if I feel that the server feels that they should be tipped.
More importantly how do we know that the tip is being given direct to the employees and not in the establishments back pocket. Any money that I tip with I want to know goes to the person who served me and not to others who give a substandard service.0 -
Tip whatever you feel comfortable with!0

Why tip at all?
I've saved quite some money from not tipping.0
