I have read all of this but my own view and I'm sure others have said it is firstly to secure the house and establish a regime of locking all door even when in.

What I can recomend as I have these fitted are Yale eurocylinder barrels that have a turnbuckle on the inside rather than a loose key.
It makes it so much easier to lock the door behind you without having to re insert the key. They are also safer should there be a fire as there's no searching around for keys in the smoke.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I really think that arming yourself in any way, or even thinking about it, is counterproductive. If the worst happens and someone breaks in then generally they will do anything they can to avoid being detected, and will scarper at the first sign that they have been spotted.

If someone breaks in for more than robbery (very unlikely) then they will likely be prepared and able to defend themselves. Your girlfriend is unlikely to be much use with a weapon in a panic situation like that unless she's had lots of practice.

I'd focus on locks and visible security (PIR lights inside and out, big dog bowl by the back door, crunchy gravel on the path and drive etc...)

But that's not what you originally said is it?
It's exactly what I said. Some police forces have banned officers from using Mag-lites.

Yet your link allows the use of maglites upto 2D in size, so hardly a maglites ban is it?

Obviously talking about the large ones, the ones that could be used as a weapon. Obviously not talking about whatever lights they may or may not manufacture.

NYPD allow a 3D cell, can easily be used as a weapon, I've seen someone lose teeth after being struck with one.

You don't need a weapon to do that.

Lovely, some forces use the full length, some still use battons, some have tazers, some don't, some carry guns, some don't.
Point was some places it's banned.
