A copper told me a four cell mag lite that's the one that takes U2 size batteries, by the side of the bed would be reasonable!

The four cell is a far better [STRIKE]weapon[/STRIKE] tool than the six.

My mum keeps a tin of flyspray next to the door - perfectly reasonable as she stores other items in her porch. I don't think she would ever be quick enough to use it if threatened, but it makes her feel safe. At 82 and living alone, she is quite safety conscious.

Op- any relation to Michael Ryan? Can't you borrow one of his AK47's (he doesn't need them anymore).

Many police forces in America have been banned from carrying Mag lites because they are far too easy to use to beat someone with. They've been replaced with rubber versions.

Personally I'm not sure I'd be able to defeat someone with a blunt object, unless I was being burgeled by a 4ft tall 80 year old woman, then I'd give her a run for her money (or my money). Short crack !!!!! grannies better watch out before they step into my house!

Banned, I doubt it. There are far better torches that are smaller, lighter and more powerful.

I think you need to follow your own advice. Unless of course your not up to the job and that's the wife's legitimate excuse for the rounders bat. ;):D

The bat isn't anywhere near an exit and is a last line of defence...she also knows how to use it properly! I would have no hesitation in telly a copper exactly what it is for, as for her, it is reasonable force against an intruder that would have cornered her in a bedroom...she has other things to make up for my inadequacies! lol ;)

    A Dog?.....
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
  • My wife had a home invasion while I was at sea (South China Sea to be precise) Two masked men entered through the front door and stole her jewellery and money, she struggled with them and injured her back.
This was 4 years ago bur she still suffers from trauma and wishes she had something like a taser to use.
By the way the police victim support is only telephone support, she has tried to get some face to face help but no luck.

Victim Support is a charity and nothing to do with the police.
