Just to update - I caught the train and we bought the cheapest bottle of rose wine at £5.99. Two 10oz steaks @ £9.99 became bogof due to my voucher. The wine lasted us all evening as I suspected so £16 total bill divided in half £8 each. The soft drinks option wouldn't have been enough with just one glass.

    Rose with steak?

Good grief, what is this country coming to!!!!;) :rotfl:

    Gotcha! :T

We've got one in our town, it used to be a Yates's pub but has been recently refurbished and renamed.

Looked at their website and it says 'wine from £7.95 a bottle', it's competing with a Wetherspoons about 100 or so yards away.
Ok, so it looks like they do price to the local market. There has to be some advantages in living where there's a local of jobs and opportunities!!

Haha. My friend dislikes red. I like any! I didn't choose though she came back to the table with it. She ordered because she was trying to see if she could wrangle another deal in conjunction with my voucher and I refused to try. it didn't work because she'd got the wrong day of the offer she was trying to make work!

    I think so.
The cheapest bottle of wine (Hardys I think) in Wetherspoons is £8.45 (ish) a bottle.

I don't think that qualifies as a new low for this thread, though points for trying.

btw- the pub chain is called Stonegate Pubs Company. I don't know if the cheap prices I've mentioned on here are replicated around the country in which they are located or they price to local demand.

I'd never heard of the company so googled to find they run a couple of pubs in a nearby town. And yes, you're right they do price to local demand as the two bottles of wine you previously mentioned at £5.95 cost £10.95 here for identical label, El Zondaz, and the 10oz rump steaks are £12.99 each. Their menu looks very similar to the Meet & Eat chain pubs, well at least for that particular venue.

Just looked at another place and the wine is now £14.50 a bottle and rump steak is £14.99 so it looks like the more expensive pubs are subsidising the cheaper ones which is why they can offer such low prices.

Yes, so would I, but my companion might not chose to discuss their finances.

If they are happy to only have one course that is fine. It's the people like me who WOULDN'T be happy if they couldn't have what they wanted that I am talking about. There is no way that I personally would ever go for a meal if I could only afford one course (even though I might only chose to have the one course when I got there). It's a matter of being able to have a second course if you want it.

I don't think the companion needs to disclose their finances. They can simply suggest a different restuarant.

£8.45 for the wine and £10.99 for the steaks at our nearest one.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

But would you assume (if it wasn't discussed ahead of time) that if they didn't order a starter it was because of money and let your annoyance show in your body language ? (or perhaps would a better question be .....Before this conversation would you have normally made that assumption ?)

Frankly if I'm eating out I'm going out for a meal and I don't expect my companions to be analyzing my every decision .....just get on with your own dinner !! :)

I am a greedy git and will usually do 3 courses and a bucket of alcohol but I'll always put in extra to cover off my indulgence and a proportionate tip, mainly because I'm not a tight git.
