Its not the case for everyone.
No, my reference to triviality concerned the issue of making sure that everyone pays to the penny. It is trivial, in that if it happened more than once that someone really took advantage, I wouldn't repeat the experience, so, trivial, in that it is easily solved.
If money was so tight that I couldn't afford any deviation from what I had ordered if the bill was split, then I wouldn't eat out.
We went to a dinner with some old friends some years ago and agreed at the outset that we would split the wine bill. I paid it in full on my card on the evening. Then, as agreed, I sent out an email with the amount owing to the three couples involved. two couples paid up, the other couple sent an email back saying that as one of them hadn't drunk as much as the others they felt that it should be split five ways rather than six, with them only paying for one.;)
As I had already paid and had given the others a figure I was the one out of pocket. I just took it, but we have never been out with them again for dinner and drinks.
We are stll friends and still socialise occasionally, but I won't be taken advantage of again. It was trivial in the scheme of things, but it was also easily solved.0 -

We don't need to all agree. We are not all going to eat out together for a variety of reasons, that include splitting the bill.
We would be arguing for years whether we should go to Nando or Nobu!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If you are one of these individuals who think cheap is always better, then I'm very sorry for you.
Please don't be. I think most things, including pans, is personal choice based on a set of criteria. So purchasing anything has its qualities to that individual. The rest is clever marketing and branding.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -

Is thinking that cheap is always better, any worse than thinking that expensive is always better? You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

In some cases it is, but for the main it is not.0 -

We actually cook them in the microwave now as it's not only quicker, they actually come out perfect, and just how we like them!
Glad I'm not YOUR neighbour Georgie! I'd be afraid to strike a match in my house! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Homeownertobe wrote: »Then don't go out to eat with people if the majority choose to split.
Though frankly if someone cannot afford to eat out like a civilised adult, then they shouldn't.
I didn't eat out for years when I saving for my house and for a big enough buffer that I was ok. Eating out is not a right, and in many cases it's not the responsible thing to do.
You don't have to 'not go out for years' to save for a house. There are plenty of cheap and cheerful places you can go, like Wetherspoons for example. Or maybe places like that are beneath you...You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Well, don't come anywhere near me with a match tonight Peter....guess what we've had for tea tonight?!
Exactly, you can still go out and enjoy a meal even if you're saving. People still have to have treats and enjoy themselves now and again, life's too short. There's ways and means to be able to save yet still treat yourself.0 -

NOW we're talking!
I have 3 knife blocks, 1 made up from a flea market clearance of an ironmonger's shop plus a good quality carving set.
I sharpen my knives with a steel - OH goes into the shed just in case he's stepped out of line- and I just can't understand how anyone can use a blunt knife.
