It's true if you buy based on quality rather than name. I doubt if Jamie, James Martin or Anthony Worral-Watsit have a single piece of the cookware that bears their name in their own kitchens. My pans are all WMF - cost quite a bit but are excellent to use and haven't marked or warped in a dozen years. Good quality knives are definitely worth the money too.
I do agree about good quality knives.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I bought a set of those a few years ago but was very disappointed with the quality of the non stick surface. I was quite disappointed to have to get rid of them after about 18 months because I liked the concept very much.0 -
So we're different in every way.
We eat a lot of vegetables and the way I do mashed potato comes out very well when frozen. But I don't put much butter in - and no milk at all - I add it when it comes out of the freezer.
That way I can do it stiffer if I want it as a topping for a shepherd's pie or more creamy if having with something different.
I can see why you would only want 3 small pans though.
Even with 3 small saucepans I could manage 2 different veggies as well as potatoes if the mood took me (which it very rarely does).0 -

Touch wood, we've had no problems with the non stick surface, it's been fine....then again, we have only had them since November! We had a Jamie Oliver one (with removeable handle) years ago and that had a different surface....don't know what happened to that one?
Yeah, they're a great idea, very handy!0 -
We eat a lot of vegetables, especially sprouts!
We actually cook them in the microwave now as it's not only quicker, they actually come out perfect, and just how we like them!

The only kitchen thing I inherited from my mum was an uncanny ability to burn pans in the blink of an eye.
My Mum had that talent too
My favourite was the time she went to answer the phone after putting the chip pan on and came back to find the kitchen curtains on fire as well as the polystyrene tiles dropping off the ceiling- She called to my Dad to come and help and he clearly wasn't listening because he called back "I can't come now I'm mixing cement" She put the fire out herself......and then went and gave my Dad an earfulIt became a family joke after that "I can't come now I'm mixing cement".
Then there was the time she burned through two kettles on one week on the gas. She hid the second one somewhere she though my Dad would never find it before she could sneak it out to the bin on bin day. My Dad had no idea how to use the washing machine and never went near it - but for some reason he looked in the drum -and found the burned kettle hidden in there. He went nuts for about thirty seconds then he and my Mum looked at each other and both burst out laughing
I have a long way to catch up with her burning recordI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Its not the case for everyone.
Then don't go out to eat with people if the majority choose to split.
Though frankly if someone cannot afford to eat out like a civilised adult, then they shouldn't.
I didn't eat out for years when I saving for my house and for a big enough buffer that I was ok. Eating out is not a right, and in many cases it's not the responsible thing to do.0
