The worst thing about magazines is, there is one published for everything imaginable, i go in WHsmiths and see a fishing one, a camper van one, a canal boat one, then another camper van one, then a fishing newspaper, thats £30 right there, so i've stuck to just a £2 fishing newspaper which also doubles up as a fire starting in the early mornings ;)

Evening all! Glad to see a few more have signed up for this very worthwhile challenge!

Welcome yasmin2, who is going for a brave 15 NSDs!

Also to you, Aliliva - you can include or exclude what you like, your challenge, your rules. Incidentally, you say you spend at least a fiver a day - DO YOU REALISE THAT IS A WHOPPING £1725 A YEAR?????
If that doesn't put you off spending then nothing will! (Don't feel bad about it, you have just provided a dose of motivation for us all!)

Hello again Gemgem - you are such a kind sister/Aunty!

Thought for the day - April, the month where here in the UK Spring starts to kick in and the Earth awakens to the new growing season.....and the days get longer.....and people start to awaken to the fact that they'd better stop hibernating and get on with things before the year flies past.

Hence the title of this thread, The Awakening.

Of course, if you live on another continent far from here then what I have just written is a load of old bowlocks.

A little poem for you, just to raise the tone of the thread....

Spring is sprung, de grass is riz
I wonder where de birdie is?
He's on de wing - now dat's absurd,
De wing is on de bird!

I found the 'No spend day' approach really helpful when trying to stop spending money, i'd pick up a magazine and think to myself "wait, today is my no spend day" and put it back, even if i end up buying the magazine on a day which isn't a NSD, i still manage to put it back the first time round and walk away, which is 99% of the problem :):T

I can see it working for me too - fingers crossed!!!

HAD to spend today as dog had an appointment at the vets - £119 later.....

Good morning NSD gang, April the second, and I am having a cup of tea in bed whilst the rain gently falls on the windows. There might be a chance of a NSD for me today, so keeping fingers crossed!

Debtfreedolly - Ouch and double ouch to the vet's bill!

I know right?! His repeat prescription is around £90 per month but yesterday was his three-monthly check up so there was a consultation fee on top! Luckily we saw a sensible vet who trusts us to come back if we need to and she extended us to six monthly checkups from now on so that will help a bit...
  • Again I HAD to spend today, I volunteer at a hedgehog hospital so I needed my train fare to get there (on he train now) but I DID walk to the station saving on bus fare and I didn't have my usual Costa at the station so I have been as good as possible! I even walked up and down the platform till my train came (looking like a complete loon) to up my bounts points!!!
