not strictly related to benefits but how long since she left the UK? She may be classed as an international student and have to pay the applicable fees for the course...just something to check out0

Your 16 year old daughter is returning from Spain, so she will not have made any National Insurance contributions, so doubtful she will be entitled to anything.
Those who look after her MAY be entitled to claim Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits. But these are for the person making the claim, not your daughter.
Your daughter will have to make do with what you and other relatives give her.
And I'm sure if you think about it logically, you will know that is only right. Someone coming from a foreign country, not having contributed to the system, shouldn't have the right to take out of the system.
Isn't that what Mr Cameron has just significantly failed to achieve after hawking himself around every capital in the EU?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
She will be supported by parents as much as we can. I don't think I said anything about that, just asked about other help available. I thought that was what this forum was about, I did not expect sarcastic, judgemental comments...
Actually, you asked what "financial help" she'd be eligible for so financial help from parents is a perfectly appropriate answer.0 -

The OP's daughter won't be eligible to claim any benefits for herself so that isn't really relevant.0 -
It is pretty straight forward. If your ex' SIL is going to take over her care, then she should be entitled to the same than she would be if she was her daughter, however, considering the unusual circumstances, she might face a few questions first.
Your DD won't be entitled to anything in her own right.0 -
The person caring for the child can persue the parent/s with PR via the CSA.
If they are low earners they can claim certain tax credits. If earning under a certain amount they could claim child benefit.0 -
Morning all
My 16 year old daughter will be returning to UK from Spain to study full time at college in September.
She will be on her own and boarding with my ex husbands sister in law.
Could anyone advise whether she will be entitled to any financial help? She is hoping to pick up a part time job but can't do that until she gets back.
Thank you0 -
Don't forget that she will also need medical insurance cover as she won't initially be entitled to free medical treatmentThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Wow....
Its about helping people get their entitlements ! Not about benefits policy!
This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.
It’s ONLY focus is helping people with their money.
It's here to help people find out what they are entitled to under the current system, and to help them get it.
Benefits provide a lifeline for many, and this site is here to help people with their money, and not to judge. Of course, how to illegally defraud the benefits system shouldn't be discussed here, but ensuring you're getting your entitlement is exactly what it’s about.
We all know the benefits system is a mess – but that’s for the discussion time.
Whatever you're political persuasion, we're all aware the benefits system is a mess. Whether it’s the malpayments of tax credits, benefit fraud, or simply the fact that sometimes it doesn't pay to work - everyone has their grumble.
Yet to discuss the benefits system itself and issues around it, the appropriate place isn't here but the Discussion time Board and even there, please remember courtesy and not to make it personal about anyone. This site's prime purpose it to help people with their money and I will always act to protect that.
Thanks for your co-operation
