And even worse they didn't tell you what you wanted to hear !! Getting cross because of that doesn't help though.

If your daughter hasn't lived in Britain for several years (if ever) then it is not a straightforward situation but as a sixteen year old level 3 student she will be entitled to nothing in her own right (just like every other student of her age). Child benefit and tax credits may be appropriate but her previous residency may exclude your SIL from claiming this as may your SIL's own income.

You want a simple answer for a non simple question -it simply isn't possible. Simple answer is No she's entitled to nothing - not so simple her guardian *may* be entitled to something. If she has a disability as you are implying then the situation is different again .

Her tuition may not be free if she's regarded as an EC rather than home student - something to check.

Don't forget that she will also need medical insurance cover as she won't initially be entitled to free medical treatment

If the OP's daughter is becoming resident in the UK then she won't need health insurance.

The OP hasn't mentioned disability, that's another poster.

I think you'll find they did when they said "all the complexities of her condition on here. Didn't realise there were so many mental health specialists around."

If not specifically said, it is most cetainly implied.

That was a different poster highjacking this thread to have a moan..

I think you'll find that wasn't the OP (RachS) but another poster (Charityworker) as I stated!

Simply to condense the previous replies. She won't be entitled to anything in her own right. A person acting a 'responsible adult' may have entitlement to Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits depending on personal circumstances.
I don't know how recent arrival in the UK might affect entitlement to free medical treatment or free education. Adults have to show that the UK is their main base, I don't know about under 18s.
