Morning all
My 16 year old daughter will be returning to UK from Spain to study full time at college in September.
She will be on her own and boarding with my ex husbands sister in law.
Could anyone advise whether she will be entitled to any financial help? She is hoping to pick up a part time job but can't do that until she gets back.
Thank you

The person caring for her may be able to claim tax credits but will depend entirely on their circumstances.0

Am I correct in thinking that child benefit is a definite?0
-
Possibly but again depends on the person circumstances and if anyone else is already claiming.0

Radical idea, but could either/both parents give financial support? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
She will be supported by parents as much as we can. I don't think I said anything about that, just asked about other help available. I thought that was what this forum was about, I did not expect sarcastic, judgemental comments...0

Rach. This is the Bennies board where the only sin IS to be judgemental in answer to your query though, hopefully she is entitiled to absolutely ziltch.0

Wow....
Its about helping people get their entitlements ! Not about benefits policy!
This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.
It’s ONLY focus is helping people with their money.
It's here to help people find out what they are entitled to under the current system, and to help them get it.
Benefits provide a lifeline for many, and this site is here to help people with their money, and not to judge. Of course, how to illegally defraud the benefits system shouldn't be discussed here, but ensuring you're getting your entitlement is exactly what it’s about.
We all know the benefits system is a mess – but that’s for the discussion time.
Whatever you're political persuasion, we're all aware the benefits system is a mess. Whether it’s the malpayments of tax credits, benefit fraud, or simply the fact that sometimes it doesn't pay to work - everyone has their grumble.
Yet to discuss the benefits system itself and issues around it, the appropriate place isn't here but the Discussion time Board and even there, please remember courtesy and not to make it personal about anyone. This site's prime purpose it to help people with their money and I will always act to protect that.
Thanks for your co-operation

If you look at the benefits available for young people in full time education
you will see that these are available (if the criteria are met) to the parent(s) through Child Benefit and Child Tax credits.
The only other benefit that might be available to your daughter is Income Support and this is only in specific circumstances, e.g where the young person is estranged from their parent(s).
Even if this could be proved (since you will be providing financial support this does not seem to be the case) then your daughter might have to pass the habitual residence test if she has been living in Spain (or was this a holiday?)
So, to be honest, the benefit side really depends on all the circumstances involved. Your ex.'s sister in law is not family so your daughter appears to be lodging with her or has she taken her in and will be 'responsible' for her? Have you spoken to her about this and the financial side of things?
A little more information would be helpful please.0
