Hey, got a quick question for you all. Does anybody include meals out in their budget? I'm off to meet a friend and will probably go for lunch which will only be about £5 but I'm wondering if people include things like that in the budget.
Thanks
It tends to be a treat (personal budget) or special occasion (entertainment budget). HTH

Hi all,
I was a member of this challenge back in 2011 when I was aiming to clear our debts (worked a treat!). Were in a slightly different situation now of wanting to save for holidays, home improvements etc.
I have over the last couple of months kept a track of every penny spent and food and household costs seem to have spiraled out of control, so time to rein it in.
My budget is going to seem excessive and probably double what I was aiming for just a few years ago, but I want to be realistic.
Could you put me down for £400 for April please, this is for 3 Adults a teenager and a variety of animals. This will include everything bought from any food shop (food, toiletries, alcohol, cleaning products and all meals out).Grocery Challenge Sept 2021 £95.40/£500

I don't include meals out as I have a separate amount of 'Happy Cash Stash ' which I keep for entertainment etc. I so rarely eat out its quite a treat when I do. Most of my friends are like me its usually family treats when I eat out.I do have a supper every Tuesday at the local pub which is included in the price of the quiz night and at £2.00 its a bargain.Last Tuesday it was a jacket spud with cheese and beans.
My DD treated me on easter monday night to a meal with the family bless her and before that it was my eldest DGS Danny who took me to lunch with his young lady to Buddabelly's in Maidstone I highly recommend it for a great eating out venue.
I am quite happy to eat my own home cooked food though0 -

ThanksI do, because it's a fairly rare event. I also include if I buy coffee snacks or lunch at work, and if I buy a cheeky takeaway.
Some don't. Some maintain a separate 'entertainment' budget that includes meals out.
(and some even count the cost of the meal if someone else pays!)We don't count it from GC budget but it's seldom anyway.

I don't include meals out purely because it is infrequent and sporadic and can throw my budget out the window! I do include coffee, snacks and takeaway that I buy when I'm out the house though.November GC: £50.55/£130. October GC: £72.60/£150

2 x no spend days but I am longing to go shopping! This is an awful addiction.
My cupboards are stuffed with everything I could possibly need for at least a month!! Yet I want to spend "just a pound" on flour and a bag of spuds.
I've frozen jackets and chips in as well as Smash, and a pound of seeded brown flour and a pound of self raising as well as the loaf that's rising just now - so probably don't need any till next weekend at the earliest. Even then I have so many rice and oatcakes I could be using up instead of making bread! *shaking my fist at my brain*
I have a bad, bad shopping habit2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000
